Not sure if it's been mentioned before but when the 3 main party leaders were asked about the visit, Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrats) casually mentioned he was an atheist (I think his exact words were 'I have no faith myself...'). Of course I'm not surprised that none of them spoke against the visit (don't want to lose those Catholic votes) but I was extremely cheered that Clegg's atheism was treated with complete indifference* by his competitors, the media and the public. It simply wasn't seen as a problem at all. Made me proud to be British.
*Cue jokes about it being because people are indifferent to the Liberal Democrats as they'll never get in - though recent polls suggest such jokes' days are numbered.
