BBC 9/11: The Conspiracy Files

Hmm, I didn't think that was such a great programme. Obviously there's a limit to what you can do in an hour, but I'd have hoped they could have done more investigations themselves. Why have the Popular Mechanics guy talking about NORAD, for instance? Why not talk to NORAD, some pilots or whatever themselves? There just wasn't very much new in it... I think I could have done a better job. Maybe I'll have to!

I agree there was nothing new, but I thought the structure of the programme was well thought out. Rather than doing the first half hour showing the theories then the second debunking them, the way they addressed every claim as it arose meant that the CT mindset was never allowed to get a hold on the viewer. That, of course, will lead to accusations of anti-CT propaganda, and I'm sure it's being denounced on LCF right now. However, it means that a mass audience who probably knew very little about 9-11 will now approach it with an anti-CT mindset, and will take a lot more convincing than the usual Loose Change-induced hysteria. I don't think it was about research, it was about presenting the evidence that's already well known in a convincing way.

Besides, have you actually left any new stuff to be found out?

Dave

I don't think they did too bad a job to be honest, considering the number of topics they covered in an hour. The target audience wouldn't necessarily be the people who are on here.

As a relatively infrequent visitor to the conspiracy forums, I thought the best description of Avery was that made by the programme at the start - a dropout. An uneducated one at that.

I was happy that the show didn't leave any questions, but answered all the main claims of inside job.

Do you think people are so brainwashed they cant see through this garbage? Just continue to ask real questions that need to be answered. Like we always have been doing. I think it's about time people shut off thier propoganda machine. I mean TV is for the poor judgemental people. More people are becoming aware of this. Thats why they stooped to this level just to make a hit piece out of the truth movement, because there still is a large mass that arent aware of these brainwashing schemes.

So, they think that WE are the ones that are brainwashed . These guys saw a film that was vastly inaccurate, and believed it faithfully, and they say that we're brainwashed...

Maybe. But I felt they concentrated on the wrong things. We didn't need anything on The Lone Gunmen, for instance. Or the "4,000 Israelis didn't go to work on 9/11" claim. These are unimportant, especially when they spent so little time on the "controlled demolition" claims, for example showing the claims about "squibs" and then not dealing with them.

The Pentagon wasn't great, either. They mentioned the "small hole" claim, and unless I missed it, just seemed to accept that there was one 18 to 24-foot hole and nothing else. Not true! And not something you can confront with the Purdue simulation, either: I'd have spoken to some of the original ACSE report guys, at least.

Overall, I think this will be enough for people who've never looked at the topic. The hard-core will ignore it, though, and I think fence-sitters will too, which is an opportunity missed. The case against the CTs is far, far stronger than this programme made out: it's really not done us any favours.

That first thread is terrifying. Holy cow are those people nuts.

The second thread includes the priceless quote:

i dont think i've ever seen a documentary with so few facts
they tried unsubtly tried to make alex jones out to be a nut

Which is strange, because Loose Change seems to have far, far fewer.
But I agree about Jones. He's a shrewd charlitan and conman, not a nut.
ETA: Another corker:
Might i add Fetzer sounded like a total idiot - he was in his house lookin spacey sayin stuff like "and this is my table... and over there is where i communicate to the world"

Idiots.

They spent 5min at most on about the Joos, compared to say what they did the Pentagon, WTC7 and Flight 93 which were half the show.

The CTs as ever will stick their fingers in their ears in regards to what was said about he Pentagon, WTC7 and Flight 93 and focus on Operation Northwoods (which was mentioned at the beginning of the show) but also has nothing to do with 9/11, and this Joo thing.

Idiot.

Avery: Popular Mechanics last company that should be investigating 9/11
What a hypocrite.

Civilians investigating 9/11: cool.
Popular science magazine investigating 9/11: outrageous!

I thought it was pretty good. It didn't go into details as much as I'd like and it wasn't exactly right concerning the tower's collapses but the CT's came off as insane jackasses attacking normal, decent people. Really strong towards the end.

Overall this was how I felt about the programme, I was hoping for a bit more research and maybe some knew footage etc, akin to the interview with the C130 pilot who came across as a very honest and sincere person I must say. In hindsight maybe I was being a little bit too optimistic.

As I mentioned previously BBC documentary's, in order to appeal to a wider audience, tend to focus more on the human aspect or drama of an event rather than specific details (the science or physics etc). Obviously the majority of the British public don't know about all the conspiracy theories regarding 9/11 and people like Alex Jones or Uncle Fetzer like we do so they can't just jump into the core subject.

That's no mean feat at 10pm. Certainly looking forward to reading about that case, in any case!
