BBC 9/11: The Conspiracy Files

4,000 Jews stayed away from work claim.

Talk to Cheryl Shames, sister of Andrew Zucker, Jewish man who died on 9/11.

Explains that story came from reports of 4,000 people who might have been in the vicinity of the attacks, not working there. Al Manar TV then put a spin on the story turning it into 4,000 Israelis who didn't turn up for work. Later became 4,000 Jews.

Cheryl Shames says theories crazy. Narrator: around 200 Jews likely to be killed at WTC, in line with New York population.

family member who lost a brother on conspiracy theories: "It hurts me"

On to the psychological side of things: X-files guy

This is great.

"People who make a living out of telling stories"

hehehehehehee

X file team was trying to give the nation a coded warning

Like, because, going public would be too obvious?!?!?

Talking to Frank Spotnitz, X Files and Lone Gunmen producer. His theory on why people want to believe. Appealing because CTs spin bits of information that make everything seem logical and they justify what you already believe.

Narrator: Spotnitz part of CT because Lone Gunmen episode included false flag episode where they crash plane into WTC.

Spotnitz: first thought was Lone Gunmen on 9/11, was this a copycat attack.

Heard rumours of 9/11 attack link on Internet to Lone Gunmen.

Only 1 area where there is evidence against FBI and CIA; they may have had some warning of some description.

Narrator: It's claimed Flight 93 was shot down. Debris found miles away proves it.

AJ: We know the Flight 93 story is false. Mentions the 9/11 debris field.

films Indian Lake. Says it's claimed to be 6.9 miles from crash site. Seems to check out if you take road, but in a straight line it's about a mile, wind blowing in that direction on 9/11.

Narrator: "But was debris found here"?

Resident: no large parts found. Scraps of paper and insulation found only, blown on the wind.

I hadn't realised it was only a mile away as the crow flies. That the CTs had used a motorist's routeplanner to work out the distance cracked me up.

Thanks for the play-by-play, guys, for those of us who cannot view it "live". Much appreciated :)

Alex Jones tapping into vein of cynicism about Government. Clips Oliver North, Clinton, Rumsfeld "we know they have weapons of mass destruction"

Cynicism and hopelessness affects many people. Everyone assumes they're being lied to. One story where the evidence stacks up against the Government re: specific warnings of the attacks.

January 2000: al Hazmi and al Midhar arrive in LA. Moved into a San Diego suburb and lived under their real names. They had come on a mission.

At same time, CIA cable confirmed they were in country, didn't pass lead to FBI, who didn't know they were here.

Talks to FBI agent, drives past where they lived. Rented rooms from an FBI informant but he suspected nothing. One of defendants listed in phone book.

Failure to act on intellegence - CIA veteran.

Incompetence, not malice.

Only conspiracy was CIA employeers not taking a risk, rather than hiding facts.

Dale Watson, FBI: I knew an attack was coming. We had no specific information though.

17 days before 9/11 the CIA finally alerted the FBI but San Diego pair moved on. Wasn't a lack of intelligence, a failure to act.

Mike Scheur, CIA: If there was a conspiracy, it was a conspiracy to avoid taking a risk.

Dale Watson: There is no conspiracy. Problems of communication, not orders from the top down telling people to ignore things.
