Barred from entry to the UK

Agreed, Richard. And besides, I think people are bright enough to realise everyone on that list is there on individual merits, and not as part of a collective whole.

How many hateful Islamic preachers are on the list? The UK is a lost cause, death by multiculturalism.

According to the BBC descriptions, none are identified as such - there are "preachers", there is a "Muslim activist", but there are no "Islamic preachers". Fred, however, is clearly identified as a Baptist.

his whine is not that he's barred from coming, but that "To link me up with skinheads who are killing people in Russia, to put me in league with Hamas murderers who kill people on buses is defamation".

I am not a lawyer but all I can say to that is that I would recommend that he attempts to find a lawyer who will take his case on a "no win, no fee" basis.

You mean governments actually have a right to limit entry into a country?

When people suggest that the goverment should limit entry into the US, they're condemned.

Firstly, let me just add my support to the oft-voiced view that the man is a hatemonger and he can damn well b***** off. No problems there.

Can I also note in passing that the man's research is so stunningly good that he doesn't know the difference between England and the UK. Mind you, you folk south of the border can keep the Home Secretary as far as I care.......

And on a final note, Philip, the US government has some tough visa requirements where visitors are known to have engaged in or supported criminal activity so I wouldn't get too cocky there.

The murderous, war-criminal UK government has a nerve preaching about the downside of encouraging violence and hatred.

I know the US has visa requirements. What I was referring to is the condemnation of people who say the US goverment should actually enforce those requirements.

Evidence that US commentators who support the dropping of Visa entry requirements re: criminal offences?

I wasn't referring specifically to objections to visa requirements about criminal offenses. There are protests against people who simply say immigrants should have a visa:

Some cities don't even report illegal immigrants who break more laws than immigration laws:

I intended to make just one quick comment with my first post in this thread, and I don't want to further derail the thread.

Michael Savage Banned In the U.K.

NPR
Conservative radio host Michael Savage's name has been placed on a list banning his entrance into the U.K. The list also includes a white supremacist and a member of Hamas.

I'm not sure I understand this one. Unfortunately, the segment did not have a U.K. perspective. What do you Brits think about this and does this sort of thing happen often?

Personally I could hardly care less. I know there is sometimes some fuss about foreigners coming over here and preaching hatred; generally it's some Islamic radical type. They mentioned this on the news - not the lead story - and listed about a dozen people who are on the "not allowed in" list. Mostly of the aforementioned Islamic radical stripe, though Fred Phelps and one or two others were amongst them.

He's threatening to sue. Can't really see on what grounds he would. Foreigners surely can't have a legal right of access to the UK, and I would think it would be hard to sue a government minister for making a decision that is legally her right and indeed duty to make.

My betting is it will just blow over.

I'm torn on this one. I despise Weiner (his real name) but am somewhat uncomfortable with him being banned by the UK for the views he espouses which are not that far out of the mainstream. There is definite separation between him and, say, David Duke (who I note is not on the list). Indeed, even the Phelpses, as odious as they are, shouldn't be banned.

On the third hand, it's not my country, and I always support the rights of other countries to make their own decisions as to whom to allow entry.
