Barack Obama suggested last night that removing Osama bin Laden from the battlefield was no longer essential and that America's security goals could be achieved merely by keeping al-Qaeda "on the run".

... snip ...

His comments ... snip ... appear to contradict Mr Obama's own statements made in the election campaign.

As recently as October 7, in a presidential debate, Mr Obama said: "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority."

So did Obama lie just to get elected?

Killing him could make him a martyr; containment still prevents him from actually pursuing his 'crusade'.

did Obama say anything about bringing UBL to justice? no cowboys, not killing him.

caputre him and give the MF a fair trial.

Yes, there's no justice quite like a 1,000 lb. bomb blowing his bunker to smithereens.

sure cowboy :p

i remember an US President talking about, rule of law, not the rule of the jungle.

Not applicable in a war. Not by any US President, ever. Your memory is faulty.

But if Switzerland wants to send some police to Pakistan to arrest bin Laden they should feel free. Or maybe you could go there yourself and make a citizen's arrest?

Big surprise.

If bin Laden was caught the War on Terror would be pretty much over. On the other hand if he stays alive the War on Terror can go on forever. And in wartime the civil rights of us Americans can be curtailed. Keep a war going on forever, and our freedoms eventually dwindle to zero.

Let's hope I don't disappear or end up in Gitmo or something for pointing this point out :D

I never thought killing bin Laden was essential. It definitely would have been nice, but not essential.

I don't suppose anyone noticed that he said it was essential to our security goals, which may or may not be true. He didn't say capturing or killing bin Laden was no longer an objective.

...

what kind of NWO Master Conspirator are you?

Bushs dad talked about it, while announcing a war that started 2 hours before the speach.

so actually he talked about it during war.

the NWO should fire you

Is there a reason why you're going around in various threads, copy-pasting that one-sentence post and link without otherwise contributing to the thread:confused:?

Seeing the US practices death sentence, there isn't that much of a difference in end outcome for old Usama, though, is there:D?

Nope. He's not a master mind, he's an agitator, a bit of a leader, and if he gets caught or killed, he transforms into Bin Laden Brand Instamartyr(TM) in certain sectors of the Islamic world. In other sectors, it'll be good riddance to bad rubbish, but the Islamist terror cells won't all collapse with his capture nor his demise.

They have legs, about forty years worth of them.
