Bachmann pwnd by 8 year old 'activist'

I'm sure an 8 year old can come up with that his mother is good the way she is on his own.

Agreed...But this has nothing to do with what actually happened. Totally irrelevant to what several posters have complained about regarding this mother's actions. OF COURSE an 8 year old can come up with the idea that mommy is just fine. But there is quite a gap between that and being a 'political activist'.

"Mommy is just fine...I love mommy" --> No problem.

"Mommy's sexual orientation is not something that needs to be fixed" --> Maybe, but not very likely.

"I have been following the various candidates, including the representative from Minnesota, and I disagree with her characterization of homosexuality as something that can or should be fixed. I would like for mommy to take to me meet Mrs. Bachmann so I can tell her how I feel." ---> This did not happen.

I also think that some who don't see a problem with this behavior would label it as brain-washing a young person if a different political position was being put forth...

They would likely decry using a child to support certain socio-political actions.

Yeah making your kid "mic check" politicians you don't like. Awesome.
I don't like "mic check". This goes to my complaint about our failure as a nation to value speech. It's spam. Ideas ought be able to compete in the marketplace.

Your post included "I doubt this 8 year old understands the issue at all. Did he come up with this opinion on his own?" and I was addressing that.

It's entirely likely for 8 year olds to understand that their mother loves women is not something that needs to be fixed.

Edited. What happened at the end after the child spoke up? It cut off just after that and we don't get to see Bachmann's response. Does that not mean anything?

@mortimer - I'm not sure I follow you. Bachmann sort of looks stunned, waves a bit and says 'bye bye' as the mother & child scuttle off. It didn't strike me as being edited (although it was cut quite short).

Are you seeing something here I am not?

What the hell is wrong with using your kids for something like this? The little spawn need to earn their keep. People push their kids into all kinds of directions; sports, acting, beauty pageants, grades, gold mines in Mali, etc. What is wrong with grooming the next John Stewart or Bill O'Reilly or Borat?

The kid should have finished with "Please don't adopt me. I'll rather have a mommy who doesn't like dick, than a mommy who doesn't know dick."

When I was eight years old I understood there were homosexuals. I also knew that it mystified me that some people hated them. If I had been confronted with a politician that I knew hated homosexuals I might very well have point blank asked them "why?"

So I really don't understand the hate for the kid doing this or the presumption that mommy is "history's greatest monster" for filming it.

Bachman got put into an uncomfortable position and I'm in favor of this. Hell I'd be in favor of it if doing so required the death of a cute puppy.

Doesn't help the conversation when you exaggerate like that.

The problem is that apparently the kid did not do this of his own volition. Mommy had to coax him. If it had been spontaneous, fine. It's the pushing by mom that is at issue.

I wouldn't be. Bachmann's not nearly worth the life of a puppy, cute or otherwise.

"Ms Guano of 2011...She is batcrap crazy...useless twits...bozos...mental wattage to run a pistol bore inspection light...lunatic...odious little twit..."

Ad Hominem "arguments"...

...are fallacious for a reason.

I love it when the "left" then turns around and calls the right "mean-spirited".

Sigh.

What is wrong with pointing out that she is unfit for the office she seeks on grounds of intellectual deficiency and mental abberation?

To admit that she might be up to the job would be a disservice to my country.

And "mean-spiritedness" when applied to the right has typically been in reference to policies that directly impact people's lives ... not merely over name calling.

I don't see it as any different from teaching a child how to use a gun. He got to see that it is safe for him to confront whacktard politicians with reality. He will know, as he growes up that this, rather than the "Second Amendment Solution" is the way to deal with idiots like Bachmann.

Maybe the world would be a better place if more people had the opportunity and the nads to do this to the bleating little twit.

It is not mean-spirited to point out unfitness for public office, if it is true.

Calling Obama a communist is mean-spirited.

Calling Bachmann nuts is just factual.

Ugly appeal to emotion.

The kid (and/or mother, through proxy) has a valid position that can be rationally defended and Bachmann does not. This event had nothing to with rationality or making a legitimate point. It was a poorly executed stunt.

Bachmann deserves to be called out and embarrassed and if this did that, great. However, the mother should be called out on this and embarrassed, too.

I don't see a problem with this. Bachmann has an intolerable viewpoint. If the mom comes up and says she's lesbian Bachmann's liable to just punch her or spit on her. Much safer to send the kid

You may have a point there.

Why?

We should be encouraging more moms to use their kids for just this. If it helps drive home what horrible bigots these candidates are then so much the better. The ends justify the means in these things.
