Australia

I most certainly am. Telopea speciosissima is the state floral emblem of New South Wales and where I grew up in Sutherland Shire they are very common.

Oh dear... Sutherland Shire :D I have some friends who grew up there. :D

I saw a girl with a break in her arm. Does that count?

I was in town for the day with my daughter, Rachel, and after negotiatiing the ferret-carrying rabble in Swanston Street we decided to have our own protest, which we called 'Occupy Chloe's Bar'.

Our aim was to divest teh evil publican overlords of a few pints of Young & Jackson's Naked Ale

She'll be down again in a couple of weeks and we're planning for 'Occupy The Espy'. That'll learn 'em.

Vive la révolution!

Occupy The Espy sounds awesome!

Last Friday we went to Eildon for lunch and came home through the Yarra Ranges. I stopped and took a few happy snaps just down the road from the Black Spur Inn at a place called Fernshaw.

Hard to believe that this is only 60 km (40 miles) as the Currawong flies from the Bourke Street Mall

BlackSpur02.jpg

I wonder why they call it 'Fernshaw'

Mountain Ash trees (Eucalyptus regnans), still recovering from the devastating fires of Ash Wednesday in 1983

There's a quite substantial creek running down this gully, but I was worried about bunyips so I stayed up near the road

The Mountain Ash is the tallest of the eucalypts and can grow to 100 m (325 feet)

Bunyip country if I ever saw it

This hillside reminds me of the Eastern slopes of the range near Mt Morgan in Queensland, over 2000 km to the North

A bit further down the road is the Maroondah Reservoir - part of Melbourne's water supply

Those photos remind me of sights seen in one of many trips of mine to Augusta here in the West. These were taken on a very cheap little camera that I've since broken. They will resize shortly.

I just found Augusta on Google Earth. Right down on the SW corner of Australia. Looks like very interesting country. I have seen very little of WA. None until I visited my brother in Perth last year. He is in London now but he got did some nice trips with his family in all directions from Perth.

I've travelled to a fair few places around this state, most are lovely areas. Walpole is pretty.
