why do most people think there has to be a god for there to be a afterlife. im a atheist that knows from experience that theres a afterlife. atheism is only the disbelief of there not being a invisible man in the sky. so you can believe there is a afterlife and still be a atheist. i got everything i need to exist forever.its hard to mixed the physical world with the spiritual world.

You know this from experience? OK, so... what happened?

A lot of people don't. Many humans believe in reincarnation without also believing in Gods and whatnot.

for you to discover for yourself before or after you die.

That's odd. My boyfriend was dead once for about 10 minutes and he discovered that there was no afterlife. There now!

Besides, as an atheist why should I speculate on whether there is an afterlife or not? It's not as if proof of an atheist afterlife would somehow change my current life due to the lack of big sky-daddy's threats and promises.

Atheism only means you lack belief in god. It doesn't stop you from believing other nonsense.

The only reason people believe that they survive their own death is because of the human ego. People have a hard time realizing that they are nothing more than a bag of meat. And once that bag of meat is gone, so are they. The human ego has one believe they are so important that they must survive their own death in some way.

It's all wishful thinking.

your belief is wishful thinking because you want the people who are better then you to end up the same way after death. in truth there is a afterlife.

Better WRT what?

Are you actually saying that there is somepasta out there who'll judge me when I snuff it, and decide if I'm worthy of the beer volcano and the stripper factory?

That's not really an atheist afterlife, is it?

Buddhism, at least by some interpretations, is atheistic and believes in some sort of afterlife (though this is very different from the Judaeo-Christian concept).

Me? I'm an atheist but I have an afterlife in the sense that my piffling little PhD thesis will be kept for the indefinite future in the British Library, even if I never do anything of note ever again. That's good enough for me, and far more exciting and humbling than any metaphysical afterlife.

What utter nonsense.

I have a past life time share agreement. Since there are more humans alive now than have ever died, Ronco Past Timeshare Associates has slotted me into two weeks with the Apostle Bob and a reservation for the Last Brunch.

I am even less inclined to believe in some kind of woo-woo afterlife than I am a Deist style of God!!

You must realize that none of us are worthy of the beer volcano and the stripper factory. It is only through the grace of the Cosmic Bouncer that any of us are ever allowed to gaze in drunken stupor at the heavenly boobies.

Disbelief in God is not inconsistent with belief in a temporary or even permanent afterlife.

However, belief in God requires the belief in the same sort of unmeasurable work and energy that is required for an afterlife. So, I, for one, cannot understand taking the step of believing in untestable energies, places and work without just going all the way to believing in God.

But good luck with the logical error you're committing by thinking that your personal perceptions constitute proof of anything.
