The idea to give someone an ultimatum is absolutely juvenile. It did not work with Watson, and now, did not work with Marcotte. Worst, it puts their friends and supporters in untenable position. Should Hemsley quit CFI in support of Marcotte? Marcotte's boycott does not cost her anything, but for Hemsley, it is her job. At TAM, last year, it was a bit awkward for SGU to be there without Watson.
If everyone won't agree with me then **** it.

Watson is boycotting:

Rebecca Watson said:
With that last point in mind, **** it: I’m boycotting and I hope you do, too. I’m not giving any more of my time or money to Center for Inquiry, just as I’ll no longer give any time or money to the JREF and Richard Dawkins.

Which organizations are there now left for her to support?

I haven't donated money to any of these groups, but if I do (and I plan to in the future) it would be to RDFRS.

That Michelle Obama thread is really turned into a lulz farm. i'm liking Setar's post on page 4 where, in an effort to get his share of the victim pie, he asserts that poster BillHamp is being mean to him because BillHamp should know everything about Setar, including what Setar's avatar means and, I dunno, treat him with, ugh, more positive attention.

Well, BillHamp is now listed as banned. Took longer than I thought it would, frankly.

Hmm . . ."BillHamp" . . . the first name certainly looks male, and by U.S. standards, there's nothing particularly ethnic about "Hamp" . . . yes, definitely unfit for a place that opposes judging people by gender or ethnicity.

An emotional response from Watson. Anyone surprised?

Could we stop referring to her as "Watson". Xizzle's name is Rebecca or Rebecca Watson.

"Watson" is RemiIV's dog. And I keep expecting to see cute pics of him recovering from his surgery.

Good grief. New Rule of the Internet: It means something other than what you meant when you wrote it.

3 up and 2 down? Probably the OP and two of his friends trying to start a trend and the only other people who've stumbled upon it have gone "Huh?" and voted it down. Five votes isn't exactly "common usage" or even "semi-popular slang".

No doubt the work of some homophobic cis-gendered old white guy who thinks tea is not "manly", so is insinuating that drinking it instead of coffee makes one effeminate.

Great. Now I'm envisioning RW in a cone of shame, doing a protest sit-in on an elevator.

Thanks a lot, FMW.

The jargon and vitriol is all SO unnecessary. While I am nowhere near as lefty-loopy as the A+ers, I also am not one of the 'slymepit' mob. The either you are with us or you are our enemy posture is so annoying. I would write about it somewhere and post it on a blog, but I would just be attacked.

Which is of course inaccurate. Tea is the drink of choice following a Stella-fuelled hooliganism binge. As any of the Englanders.

Some Slymepitters have posted in this thread, and since you've posted in this thread you are now associated with that wretched hive of slyme and pittery.

Just like the rest of us.

So if I'm understanding the latest drama correctly, a white man(whose opinion really doesn't count, because patriarchy) said that if some people continue certain actions, they risk alienating people they hope to convert to their cause.

That makes him a big meanie head, and should be shunned.

Is that about right?

Yep.

And now, about the only conference left for the SJW's is Skepticon in Springfield MO. Which has just announced they don't want CFI's dirty money anymore.

I've gone to II-IV, but missed V last year. I'm planning on going to VI this year. Wearing a CFI t-shirt. I'm a bad boy. :)

Now Skepticon is boycotting CFI as a sponsor.

I think it will end with Lindsay resigning. There seems to be some pretty powerful forces currently working against him.

Skepticon is stupid to lose a sponsor, conventions are expensive and unless they have deep pockets or a sugar daddy they will have a hard time putting on their convention if they push sponsors away. I seriously doubt that the FtBers or Skepchick are going to come up with funds to replace those.

I hope Lindsay does not resign, there has to be an end to the bully tactics and witch hunts. No reason he should resign because these babies object to him speaking.

Well, Skepticon is free, and pretty much only features various bloggers who take a few hundreds in honorarium. By contrast, Michael Shermer takes 5000-10,000 in honorarium for student groups (possibly even more for other appearances). I read somewhere that Sam Harris' honorarium price is 50,000 dollars, and Dawkins probably takes even more than that.

So it's probably not that bad for them if they have other sponsors.

I agree. This is getting ridiculous.

Agreed. I renewed my Skeptical Inquirer for three years, and sent an email thanking them for not giving into what I considered strong-arm tactics and blatant manipulation on the part of a certain portion of the skeptical/atheist community.
