"I have never been so wealthy that fluevogs were something I could buy without saving money and skimping on healthy groceries..."

Um, yeah. What is it with social justice keyboard warriors and the fluevogs? Never before has my RSS feed had so much talk about shoes.

lol!

More like reading between the lines.

There is something sad about all the rock throwing.

Ceepolk is a trigger for me because I've had girlfriends like her, so I'm signing off of discussing her. You can have the last word defending her, but I think her conduct as a moderator on the A+ forum is indefensible.

Sounds like you're still having issues with those ex-girlfriends and ceepolk got the benefit of them.

Her modding isn't my concern I just followed your link and thought you had only presented part of the story.

I am not now nor have I ever been a member of the Forum A+*

Luxury goods that other women go oooooooo over. Kind of like bragging about going to the upscale salon and getting a hundred dollar haircut.

If we scroll further down that Reddit page we have the ceepolk describing the city where she lives as.

Western Canada is just as bad. I cannot get Creme of Nature anything in this white wasteland of a town

I've seen her complain about Calgary and it's lack of ethnic diversity before. Of course, the obvious solutin is to move if that's a burning issue but hey, why do something about if you can get more milage out of complaining.

She's not a native Calgarian either. She moved there and was complaining about "wanting to go home" but she couldn't because of her relationship with her therapist.

Man hater and a racist, way to rock the "superior" lifestyle ceepolk

A girl with no shoes and no food, living under a tree in Africa***, might think the A Plussers are...oh, I don't know...privileged?

***Let's call her, for the sake of argument, Muslima. :boxedin:

How odd. I suddenly have an overwhelming urge to oppress AvalonXQ with my patriarchal privileges.

Yes but the only reason she's living barefoot under that tree is cuz patriarchy, imperialism and colonialism. It's all your fault white man, all of it, every last bit.:D

I doubt that any of the A+ mods would get to be mods at JREF. Agenda-driven ideologues need not apply.

ETA: And welcome to the forum, Vetinari. Heed Mr. Scott's words; he is wise.

Egad, don't butter me up or I'll lose my edge ;)

Vetinari, there's a tool here I really depend on you might find useful -- subscribing to a thread. Then when there's a new post on a thread I'm interested in, I get an email. I go right to the new post from the email and quickly get up to date.

To activate this, go to the thread you want to keep track of. At the top of the thread on the rust-colored bar, to the right, is a pulldown menu: "Thread Tools." Open it and open "subscribe to this thread." Pick "Instant notification by email." Then you won't miss anything on that thread, and it only gives you one email between forum visits per thread.

Oh, I replied to your "Introduce yourself" post :)

She's in Calgary? Maybe I should invite her out for a drink.

I know all sorts of places where there's a decent chance I'd be the only white guy in there. Granted, if you just stay downtown it's mostly white, with a fair bit of Asian, but if you get into some areas of town, it's almost entirely South Asian.

You're exposing your cisgendered privileged white patriarchy. Why can't she (or ge/they/quee/whatever) invite you out? Why must you be in the position of power? Are you trying to supress women? Or is it wymyn?

Stop minorityslpaining to her! She's busy working up a good hate for your city!

I'd never heard of the shoe controversy until now. I'm not saying that Greta was wrong to buy shoes after soliciting donations to help her with cancer treatment. Probably wasn't the wisest move to blog about her new shiny shoes though.

Also I like her explanation afterwards as to why she bought expensive shoes:

" A pair of well-made comfortable shoes that will last for years, bought largely to be worn in professional settings, is not an extravagant expenditure."

Not really the point. Somebody who was genuinely impoverished doesn't get to choose expensive shoes now to save the expense of replacing them later. Before I was in a comfortable financial position I would buy cheap shoes when my old cheap shoes wore out because that's what I could afford. It's the Sam Vimes' "Boots" theory of Socio-Economic Injustice.

While I don't think there is a reasonable claim of controversy over her buying shoes with donated money, her reasoning actually makes the case against her.

1. Expensive shoes last longer
2. People said that she should buy something fun
3. When you donate money you don't get to dictate how it is spent*
4. Men buying shoes is a legitimate expense but women buying shoes is considered frivolous

Well 2 and 4 contradict each other. Was it a legitimate expense or was it fun? You don't get to say "Nobody would say that men buy shoes because they like shoes so why is it different for women?" in the same paragraph as "Ooh I love shoes!"

* I would take exception to 3. If you donated money to, for example, a cancer charity only to find out that the bulk of your donation went to pay the commission of the salesperson who persuaded you to donate then you would be miffed at having donated. Sure, you don't get to say where the money will be spent. But if it is mis-spent then you're going to think twice about donating again.

I was thinking maybe something else...

I shudder to think :D

Luxury. I used to dream of living under a tree.
