The answer to the question in the thread title is "no", because by-and-large, illegal immigrants from Mexico and Latin America are misdemeanants at most, and even the few who commit serious felonies don't commit the kinds of crimes that could be characterized as a danger to national security.

The act of coming here illegal is ya know, illegal. And with enough Covid here already, a greater threat.

I agree. With America having the highest numbers of infections and deaths in the world, they really shouldn't be sending people over the border to spread it to other countries....

And as far as I can tell, AOC isn't advocating, or supporting bringing in MORE immigrants, but is rather concerned about the conditions of those in detention facilities who may be getting sick, or dying from Covid-19.

You know, if they let most of those immigrants out of incarceration centers, most whom have family to live with, especially the kids, there would not be a risk of a huge COVID outbreak in those jails.

And if they get infected, good luck trying to deport them to any country.

Aside from that, of course, we must not lose sight of the fact that it is kind of disingenuous to say that the issue is championing illegal immigrants at the cost of national security, when at least some of the horrible harmful treasonous illegals being referred to here are children, who did not have much choice about what was done with them or where they went, and that some of the championing so objected to is the suggestion that they should not be put in imminent risk of death. This is apart from the question of whether the parents and families involved might be fleeing their own risk of death, and whether the idea of going home and waiting until the paperwork for vanishingly unlikely outcomes magically works is reasonable and healthy.

Even if you agree that illegal immigration is a problem and needs some solution, it remains at least conceivable that some solutions are not only ineffective sops to popular sentiment, but needlessly draconian.

Well, we do know that illegal immigrants in detention centers aren't actually real people, should also spread disease to lefties so both groups can die.

It sounds like what you are doing is suggesting a crackdown on illegal immigration will somehow help the U.S. deal with Covid-19.

But, that might not necessarily be the case. Cracking down on illegal immigrants might actually cause the problems to get worse. (Infected people will be less likely to seek medical help which prevents proper quarantine, illegal immigrants might be incarcerated which can allow the diseases to spread to fellow inmates.)

Plus, there is the fact that outside of the pandemic, illegal immigrants are statistically less likely to engage in violent crime than natural born Americans.

The best thing to do for U.S. security is to stop cracking down so hard on illegal immigrants (concentrating on those who actually are problematic), and divert resource (money, manpower) that would be used to deal with them to instead be used to improve the medical system.

I don't think this has been mentioned here, but what has caused the most recent furor in rightwingland was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's suggestion that illegal immigrants working in the U.S. who are paying income tax (but don't have a valid SSN) should be eligible to receive the $1200 payment as part of the corona virus relief provisions.

Two things: First, this is an issue that I'm sure concerns many of the people living in the congressional district AOC represents, I would presume they have communicated this concern to her and that is why she has taken on this issue.

Second, as a (currently unemployed) blue-collar worker I'm not in love with this idea but on humanitarian grounds I would be willing to support it.

Every natural disaster is an opportunity for the fash to trot out "life boat ethics". You see, we don't have enough resources for "our people", so the brown folks gotta go. Death camps or deportations, as long as they leave so that proper white folk can get first crack at our sacred homeland and its resources.

This is only going to be more in vogue as climate change causes mass migration.
