Arsonist strikes at new Mosque location.

You mean, a bigoted employee disgruntled because his employer is "palling around with terrorists", or whatever they call it these days?

Yeah that's certainly a possibility. However this is all just speculation until we see some more evidence come forth. Whether it's kids or employees or whatnot, it seems to me to be targeted against the Muslim community and those who would work with them. What the details are of that targeting and who's involved is anybody's guess at this point.

Has anyone seen a news update on this?

Dude, that's old news cycle stuff.

Perhaps it's just ol' southern news, and like most things in the South, move very slow. Like this follow-up that took nearly a week...

A Rutherford County homeowner whose vehicle was observed at the site of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro's planned mosque said he just wanted to get a look at a fire there Saturday.

~snip~

Mike Barnes, in an on-camera interview with DNJ news partners WSMV-TV Thursday, told the station that his daughter woke him around 2 a.m. Saturday, stating, "Dad, there's a fire down the road."

Barnes said "the first thing that popped into my head" was that it was the mosque site.

~snip~

But Barnes maintains he had nothing to do with the fire and investigators haven't commented on Barnes.

Sounds odd that he would drive away from the scene as the deputy approached, but who can say at this point.

And then there's this news about Ole South Excavating.

Fultz, owner of Ole South Excavating, just wants to be digging. But that's been difficult because one of his company's two jobs is stalled on the site of a fiery local controversy drawing national media attention.

~snip~

Fultz said the mosque project isn't a political issue for him — it's just a job at a time when work is scarce. At the height of the housing market, Fultz was running about 50 pieces of equipment. He's down to 20.

~snip~

Fultz has mostly dodged interview requests. He said he was asked by federal agents not to discuss the suspected arson, but provided limited comments on other subjects Thursday.

~snip~

Fathy said contractors haven't been hired for the next stages of construction after Fultz wraps up the grading and drainage work.

Sounds like the arsonist/terrorist has succeeded in stopping Mr. Fultz and his crew (seven employees) from making their living. I also wonder how easy it will be for Fathy to hire more contractors? Will they succumb to the fears instilled by the terrorist/s?

Much moar @ Link

The loss of work is a shame. What appears to be bigotry-motivated vandalism is a shame. This whole situation makes me sad.

Thank you, XBoxWarrior, for the links. Much appreciated.

Doubtful. You're describing the difference between local news and national news, not something exclusive to any specific region (I've lived in the NE and SW, both of which are slow on local stuff).

The reality is that after the initial flash of notoriety about this incident, interest fades quickly because the drama has already played out for those not local. It drops from the national news cycle. The Katy TX thing did in less than a week.

No, that that mosque...

It appears the GZ mosque debate is takin' it to the streets, of Murfreesboro, TN.

I imagine the earthmover they burnt up belongs to some christian neighbor of theirs, but damn it, he was workin' for the wrong god.

Said the teabagger. (with teabagger like rally pics @ link)

As bad as I hated to see a Mosque go up on 14th street in Atlanta ga I'm sure happy when I say no one did something like this.

Doubtful.

Well it's become painfully obvious that you are a threadshiater....and simply want to just argue about anything but the topic at hand.

In most major cities, they would have followed the parked/runaway car from the scene of the crime @ 3:00am. In the south, they have better things to do; like biscuits~n~gravy, with a side of grits...extra sausage please missy.

It's pretty simple to see that this story has lost the attention of the national media, but that may be because of the way things roll in the south.

How many press conferences have they held? That's right...None

It may just be the topic at hand, and the police/sheriff don't wanna touch this one with Jim Bob's ten foot pole, but it will be solved if the FBI choses to devote the time and money to it.

Remember, this happened in a freshly turned dirt field...there have to be many great foot print castings, if they chose to do that.

They have the one guy and his daughter in the runaway car.

Common sense says that the moron that did this (couldn't even light all four pieces of equipment on fire) will be bragging about it to someone. Eventually Tanya's rent is due on the trailer park lot, and lo and behold, ten thousand dollars starts to look a lot better than the mullet head layin' next to her in her "queen sized" bed.

My money says they'll get the perp/s.

PHP:
Today they finally held a press conference. I can't find video of the whole thing yet, but this news site has a summary video of events. The main one being a $20,000 reward from the FBI and ATF. I do believe someone will come forward and grab the cash, "it's the economy stupid". Hell, I wonder if the suspect himself might even consider the $20,000 a good payday.

Oh, and here's another bit of the presser, sans the reward part.

Redstateupdate has finally chimed in on this Murfreesboro vs. Muslims controversy.

Possibly NSFW language in video, depending on where you work.

Well, when you skip the part after that where I compared the Murfreesboro case to one that preceded it by a few years, then you seem to have a point. Murfreesbro is just as much a suburb of Nashville as Katy is of Houston, so the comparison is valid. The whole "in the South" BS is a red herring that is demonstrable in places outside of southern states, like the case in Carlton NY where the teenagers were only caught because the folks they'd been harassing held the attackers until police arrived (since it wasn't the first time and police had been late constantly previously).

Maybe the group trying to get the mosque built will get justice and the arsonist will get caught. It's certainly possible. But considering the trends over the last several years of lackadaisical responses toward Muslim groups by law enforcement I'm not exactly filled with optimism.
