No, that that mosque...

It appears the GZ mosque debate is takin' it to the streets, of Murfreesboro, TN.

Federal officials are investigating a fire that started overnight at the site of a new Islamic center in a Nashville suburb.

Ben Goodwin of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department confirmed to CBS Affiliate WTVF that the fire, which burned construction equipment at the future site of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, is being ruled as arson.

I imagine the earthmover they burnt up belongs to some christian neighbor of theirs, but damn it, he was workin' for the wrong god.

"They are not a religion. They are a political, militaristic group," Bob Shelton, a 76-year-old retiree who lives in the area, told The Associated Press.

Shelton was among several hundred demonstrators who recently wore "Vote for Jesus" T-shirts and carried signs that said "No Sharia law for USA!," referring to the Islamic code of law.

Said the teabagger. (with teabagger like rally pics @ link)

this a common accusation from Pam Geller and the other bigots, and one heard often at GZ last week.

Hitler said similar things about the Jews, i.e. Judeo-Bolshevism.

That's Mayday's home turf. Wonder what she would say about it.

Ok I don't but it would make an entertaining thread.

The act of arson is pretty cowardly. There's no honor in cowardly acts. I don't have to agree with someone to act honorably and respect their beliefs. I hope whoever did it goes to jail.

Oh and big thanks to Thunder for getting the Godwin out of the way so early.

Godwining bigots who attack a mosque with a firebomb?

hmmmm..

making an analogy between deadly violence against a religious institution, and the Nazis, is not a poor analogy.

Yes I forgot we can't discuss bigots on the internet without invoking Hitler. My mistake.

why not? he is the world's most notorious bigot.

And this is not the world's most notorious firebombing. Please don't cheapen the world's most notorious' bigot's acts for hyperbole's sake at one firebombing.

This is a cowardly act of bigotry, not an act of genocide.

was Kristalnacht an act of genocide? nope.

When you get ready to post in this forum section, do you put on a wrestling outfit and scream out "CAN YOU HEAR THE THUNDARRR?!?!?!??!!!!!!"

This line of comparison is akin to nothing more than pro wrestling. It cheapens the horrifying nature of what the Nazi's and Hitler did by comparing it to one act of cowardly and bigoted vandalism.

How about we discuss Murfreesboro, TN not Germany.

Seriously, that's some funny **** right there.

Could always turn out to be ELF or ALF.

Or drunks.

Unfortunately these vandals didn't leave a cross burning for us to be sure. I tend to think of this as motivated by bigotry, but yes it could be any of those possibilities. It's probable it's bigots, at least in my opinion.

Ducky wins the thread. "Can you hear the thundarrr!?!?" should be parky's new title.

Regarding the Tennessee mosque arson, at least the authorities are looking into the act but I wonder if they're looking very hard. Near Dallas TX there was a case where the neighbors to the new mosque were subjecting the mosque to all sorts of inflammatory behavior-- The Daily Show featured their pig races, performed near the property line every Friday-- and the authorities did very little about it because all of the obvious religio-trolling was being done on private property and all the good-old-boys left their hoods at home.

I also liked this quote...

Opponents of a new Islamic center say they believe the mosque will be more than a place of prayer; they are afraid the 15-acre site that was once farmland will be turned into a terrorist training ground for Muslim militants bent on overthrowing the U.S. government.

All that BS talk of Sharia law in the US is starting to take hold in the bible belt.

You mean the evidnce of the police "not looking very hard" in the Texas case is that they couldn't do anything against people who weren't breaking the law? WEll, yes. Hopefully that's the case all over.

Holding pig races is not equal to arson, just like Penn and Teller doing a "Second Coming of Christ" is not firebombing a Baptist Church. Note: the police only get worked up about one f those scenarios, optimally.

Someone should warn Penn and Teller...

I'm not going to divert very far and make this an argument about the Texas case, but if your only defense of the place is based on the segment from The Daily Show you should probably just quit while you're ahead. There was harassment, but none of it to the level of firebombing the building.
