Arkansas GOP targets drag shows

I'm assuming it'll get stomped on First Amendment grounds right away anyway. You can't block people from wearing clothes and doing performances on the property that's owned by a business. They just can't, it'll never fly and they know that. The only thing they want is to vote for it so they can virtue signal to their base.
Old farts who probably love to do a bit of drag in the garage with a disco ball, but don't want their neighbours to know.

The GQP want to round up any LGBTQ+ individual into a camp and exterminate them, allowing only those who are strictly Cis to have rights in their 'nation', and only males to have any say over any and all bodies.

"Drag is a legitimate artistic expression and a human right. Leave us alone."

"Okay, fine."

"And initiating your children into the drag world is also a human right."

"No it ******* isn't."

"Bigot!"

The GOP has become the most ****** up backwards excuse of a political party.

**** the Republican Party.

I mean come on. How reasonable would you be if the female M&M didn't give you a boner anymore, those uppity liberal elitists up in their ivory towers wanted to take the lead out of your pipes, and society expected the absolute bare minimum of intellectual standards and human decency out of you?

Nobody could be rational under those circumstances.

Resolved: Nobody is saying that drag shows have the right to market to children, nor that there is any problem with blocking such efforts.

You done?

There is a right to speech, not to a particular audience. However, the government can't restrict that outside some specific situations.

You know this.

There was something I saw posted on another forum.

"The biggest danger of taking your child to a drag show is that a Christian could show up with a gun."

Sometimes you can make some fairly reasonable post. And then there are the ones like the above.

Seriously, of the very small number of children nationwide who have seen things like men in drag reading children's stories in a library, who is bringing them? Who is there with them? Could it be their parents? It's not like adults are bringing their kids to venues that feature shows aimed at adults. It's not like children are wandering into any venues aimed at an adult audience and just sitting down in the front row to hear ribald jokes. It's not like drag queens are driving around in windowless vans with "FREE CANDY" spray painted on the side, picking up kids off the street and taking them to see "funny costume shows".

Characterizing drag theater as "initiating your children into the drag world" is Helen Lovejoy level histrionics. I can't believe you could post something as ridiculous as the above argument with no apparent embarrassment. I'm sure you think you're making a morally superior point, but you're just serving to illustrate the silliness of the conservative narrative.

This strikes me as at least somewhat hyperbolic.

Assuming we’re talking about the QAnon faction of the Republicans, might not be that hyperbolic.

There are reasons you are one of my favorite posters. The above is one of those reasons.:thumbsup:

What is the name of the legislative version of a straw man argument?

"It's too hard to pass laws that address real problems, so I'll pass a law for an easier problem that doesn't exist."

"Something must be done!"

Those performers at Hooters are wearing short trousers. MENS' CLOTHING! Not a skirt to be seen They are in DRAG!

That's a good point actually. Are these laws only aimed at men wearing what people would consider to be women's clothes?
