Are Most Conservatives Really Conservatives

Isn't there a 1996 interview with Obama for a British newspaper where he says he's pro-gay marriage?

He may have said that in 1996 but today he is 100% anti-gay marriage. His reason? Obama's Christian beliefs tell him it's wrong.

That's weird because I could almost swear he adamantly denied being a conservative when presented as such during a presentation of him in a CNBC show (it might have been on Hardball). I remember him actually denying any obvious political affiliation. Although I notice you use the phrasing 'identified himself in the past'. Personally I think he only agreed with some limited neocon ideas, mainly that of the invasion of Iraq.

Well it's possible I'm wrong. He's more than likely a hodgepodge of various ideas. I tend to consider him a neocon and am pretty sure he's said something along the lines of, "you could probably call me a neoconservative if I'm any kind of affiliation." However, I don't have a source for it.

Well, I was wrong about it happening on CNBC's Hardball. Instead I was during a CNN show in 2006 where he adamantly denied being 'any kind of conservative'.

From the presentation, here's the actual saying: "no no wait, you did not get: not a conservative!" ...and after some confusion... "well I have no party affiliation and no ideological one, but I'm no kind of conservative."

Here's the link to the CNN-clip.

Civil Union? Why should gays be satisfied with just that?

Well, we shouldn't, but it is a pro-gay stance around here.

Obama hasn't repealed Don't Ask, Don't Tell or the Defense of Marriage Act and I doubt he ever will.

Er, there is still plenty of time.

As for employment non-discrimination, from today's New York Times:

If Obama isn't anti-gay why hasn't he done something about this?

There is still time, people are saying he is taking on too much, so I'm willing to wait more than three months into his term.

I think all but the most fanatical obamabots can admit that he is probably worlds better than bush, or at least we can give him some leeway for a bit.

But this devotional idea that he gives a crap about anything important to freedom or secularism is entirely without merit

Heres a hint : "Anyone but bush" fits nicely into the false dichotomy category

His ABB status is not on its own reason enough for the ministry of truth of his sheepl

Is that English?

So because he hasn't acted fast enough for you, he is anti-gay?

No, the fact that he used with some of the most hardcore anti-homosexual and anti science theocrats in the country for his campaign, including chosing one of them to swear him in would be better evidence

Ah, so it is his associates and not his policies that make him a social conservative and anti-gay. That makes much more sense.

 Funny, I don't recall you talking about judicial appointments, or appointments of any consequence.

Nice mental gymnastics there. Are you going for the Josh McDowell Award in Apologetics?

How about that he proposes to expand, not end Clinton's faith based initiatives, a religious based extension of government in direct conflict with the constitution.

How about his support for faith based hiring practices?

I know there is a religious need to pretend obama is perfect and all, but reality dictates otherwise

... So his faith based community programs make him anti-gay?
