Merged Apollo "hoax" discussion - continuation thread

a: we are humans, why not think big? Besides I thought that earth at night the cities were clearly visible from space

Space (Say the ISS at 400 km) yes, the moon (another 384,000 km) no.

b: So we build it there, hence why I specified the side pointed to earth that is dark during a new moon so the lights are visible

Phrasing this however, indicates that when it is not the same side that is facing the Earth when it is not dark. The general terms are simply the Near Side and the Far Side

c: hyberbole / poking fun of conspiracy theorists does not always make me make posts ment to be taken as anything other than a (maybe bad) joke.

Sadly it is often difficult to determine in a written contact, especially when the joke falls flat.

Yes. Project Apollo started in 1960, not 1969. They didn't actually start with a ready built spacecraft. Why would you think that?

If you go from the very start of the program, then I guess the conception of the idea would have been July 1960, but it wasn't acted on beyond a concept because Eisenhower's administration was ending.

Really JFK's announcement to Congress should be a better starting point if you wanted to go from the start of the program, which was May 25th, 1961, do even that is just 55 years, still not 60+.

Other valid possible dates would be...

Astronaut selection... Oct 1963 (53 years)

Apollo One mission announcement - January 1966 (50 years)

Apollo 7 mission date - February 1967 (49 years)

Apollo 8 mission date - December 1968 (48 years)

Apollo 11 mission date - July 1969 (47 years)

First Published Conspiracy arguments - 1974 (42 years)

None of these are 60+ years.

Using the term "The main event" would to most people indicate the landings themselves, so July 1969.

And you think that the project inception is "the main event"?

Most HB's insist that the whole of Project Apollo was faked right from the outset; hell, there are even some who think that since rockets don't work in Space, that Sputnik is also fake, that will be 60 years in October next year

I regard the whole of Project Apollo as the "main event" with the landings as the culmination of that Project, and the end of the landings in 1972 with A17 as one of the most short-sighted decisions the US Government has ever made with regard to the space program (closely followed in short-sightedness by the cancellation of the Constellation Program).

True. Where does one draw the line?

If one wants to strictly restrict then Project Apollo dates from 1961 at least.

.....a compromise - why not put it into a committee and then wait a few years until the flow of time makes you correct and on target.

Did they know from the start (1961) that it is impossible and the whole thing was a planned hoax or did they start off with good intentions only to find out later that it's impossible but decided to carry on with it as a hoax anyway for whatever reason, to save embarrassment? or some other reason.
