Merged Apollo "hoax" discussion - continuation thread

The camera couldn't pick up the shadow of the pack on this man's back? I mean, maybe it's a bad angle, but there's a rod sticking out. Couldn't you AT LEAST see that shadow?

Look at the shadow angle on the ground in your photo, and the fact that the whole back of the helmet is in full sun. Also, keep in mind that the antenna sticking out of the PLSS is not in the centre, but is in fact on the astronaut's left side....

These two facts lead me to believe that the shadow of the antenna is probably cast on the other side of the helmet from the camera.

What is the claim? Do you think that they took s picture in bright light but the shadow as added later? What happened to the original shadow?

Also you can see where the top of the shadow of the backpack falls.
It's on the lower bit of the helmet...

Anomaly hunting is a strange pastime.

He's trying to remove the footprints of the stage hands before the next photo shoot.

Also keep in mind it's a blade antenna, such as those used on some handie-talkies. It's nearly identical in behavior to a carpenter's metal tape. It bends to accommodate tight corners and then snaps back. That means it's quite a bit thicker as seen from some angles than from others.

Why would there be no shadow, anyway? Did NASA paint it on the picture? Hoaxers just spend so much time looking for insignificant details to harp on.

You bring up a good point. So the All-Powerful Space Conspiracy (APSC) has managed to concoct a stage that will fool anybody into believing that we went to the moon, without really going there. Except there is this pesky missing shadow that could blow the lid off the whole thing. Oh, well, never mind that, then, we'll just have to go to press and hope no amateur sleuths watching at home have eyes keen enough to miss a tiny little detail like that. In reality, a "perfect conspiracy" like the Apollo hoaxers believe in would be indistinguishable from, you know, actually going to the moon. You can't have it both ways, hoaxers.

It's the first thing I noticed when looking into moan moon (nice typo there, Belz...) hoax nonsense. They always mention the lack of stars right off the bat, as if NASA forgot to put them in the fake studio sky, and forgot to add them in post, hoping that those meddling kids wouldn't notice.

That isn't a rod on top of the PLSS. It's a steel tape UHF antenna, essentially the same as what you'd find in a tape-measure. In this image of John Young, you are seeing it broad side on. If you draw a line from the top of the tool standing up in the soil to the corresponding part of its shadow, you can establish the direction of sunlight. If you draw a parallel line from the top of th UHF antenna, it passes right through the middle of the outer helmet. Keeping in mind that the antenna is on the left side of the PLSS, this leads me to conclude that the shadow is most likely falling on the far side of Young's helmet.

But the deeper question is this: what process of fakery could result in an object not casting a shadow?

It's like these people have never seen a shadow or handled a camera in their lives.

I've had people, probably born after 1990, claim the the Apollo images were Photoshopped.

I had a guy tell me that he could take clear pictures of dense star-fields with his smart-phone, so there should be stars visible in the Apollo images.

I even encountered a guy who insisted that the black & white TV images from Apollo 11 should be sharp and clear because he's seen black & white movies from the '40s that look way better than that.

History FAIL. If he knew anything about Apollo, he'd realize that those images were rebroadcast by pointing a TV camera at a monitor that was displaying the original slow-scan camera footage. It's not truly "original" footage. If only the SSTV tapes hadn't been overwritten, I bet they'd look different.

Yes, ask them to find out what Photoshop was first introduced.

Yes, ask him to take a picture of a starry sky, where there is also a streetlight or a well-lit building in the picture.

Tell him to .... go soak his head.
