Merged Apollo "hoax" discussion - continuation thread

It's a link to Bart's "funny thing happened." So yes, it has been discussed and debunked as nauseum.

Short version: The "secret backstage footage" to which he refers is actually from the live telecast. Sibrel was so ignorant he didn't know that. He cherry picks from it and edits it to make it seem nefarious, because he thought no one else had ever seen it and he could therefore do whatever violence he wanted to it. Film archivist Mark Gray even showed that Sibrel had to have seen clips in that footage that contradicted his claim, but Sibrel leaves those out.

I am curious about this claim about the van allen belts... are they as dangerous as this film represents them to be?

Not one thing Bart claims stands up to scrutiny. And yes, I'm on first name basis with him, having exchanged a brief set of increasingly energetic emails several years ago.

Every single claim he makes is based on false information, wrong understanding of basic science, lack of historical knowledge or flat-out lies he cribbed from others. He accused Col. Aldrin (with whom I am not on a first name basis and would salute if I ever have opportunity to meet) of being a "liar, cheat and a thief" in a well known stunt that resulted in Bart getting punched to the ground by a 70-something year old man.

Thanks.. So the claim that the belts are so energetic as to be impassable by humans (shielded) is false. Odd that this would be the basis for their claim that the moon mission was impossible. Shielding seems to be something that NASA was aware of and it makes no sense that this would not be effective... and force a faked mission.

Of course not. Even Prof. Van Allen himself blasted the conspiracy theorists for claiming so, Sibrel is a religious nut, a former part-time cameraman, and a notorious astronaut stalker. He has no qualifications whatsoever in science or engineering and is most definitely a for-profit conspiracy theorist. He'll say practically anything that means the gullible masses will send him more money.

The Apollo command module provided an average shield rating of about 7 grams per square centimeter, and an engineer colleague just undertook a retrospective design analysis to verify this. Plus the inclination of the translunar orbit meant the spacecraft missed most of the Van Allen belts anyway.

I'm on a Buzz-name basis with him and yes, he's eminently salutable either as Col. Aldrin USAF (ret), former combat and test pilot, or as Dr. Aldrin, PhD (MIT), the inventor of line-of-sight orbital rendezvous. And that's even before we get to his astronaut career. Sibrel tried to press charges, but the Los Angeles prosecutor politely informed him that in fact he was the one who had assaulted Buzz by poking him with the Bible, and that Sibrel might want to withdraw his complaint.

In the aftermath of this, Sibrel's claims to be an "investigative journalist" were given closer scrutiny. And while it was true Sibrel had once worked for a local Nashville television station, the station owner said he had merely done some part-time work as a cameraman and video editor, and specifically disavowed that Sibrel had any sort of journalist credential as the result of such work.

Last we heard of him, he was vying for the clergy.

Thanks for this info... Interesting to me is how these slick BS presentations are able to fool so many people.

Do they really fool that many people? I think its probably a pretty small group of people that actually believe we didn't go to the moon. Probably fewer than the 9/11 folks.

At least coming to sites such as this is a side benefit if you hear these claims and truly are curious about one of man's greatest achievements.

As far as I can tell the Apollo Hoax Believer is effectively extinct with small pockets of non-reproducing members in protected enclaves like the Delusional Idiots Forum. And even there the hoax threads have either dropped off the first page or have all been moved (again) to the Rant Room where only signed in members can even see them.

The Apollo hoax as a belief can only thrive in an intellectual climate of general ignorance and specific abhorrence of education in general and all things American specifically.

As far as the DIF Rant Room, nothing as been posted there about Apollo for several weeks. Good ole Gort necroed a few threads, then that's been pretty much it.

What nonsense. Everybody knows the radiation in the Van Allen belt causes biological changes to human beings which may give them extra human powers. The Reed Richards expedition proved that.

"The super secret NASA doesn't want you to know!"

That goes a long way explaining how a old man was able to punch out a man half his age. Good thing Buzz held back and didn't punch him through a nearby wall.

Ignorance is now more celebrated than knowledge sadly

I've just found a very interesting online article (with recordings) about a man in Kentucky who built his own antenna and listened in to Apollo 11.

http://legacy.jefferson.kctcs.edu/observatory/APOLLO11/Default.htm

The Baysinger recordings. Pretty awesome stuff there. I've made sure to inform countless hoax believers about that. Of course nobody has a useful reply other than ridiculing his use of materials - angle iron salvaged from a bed frame and chicken wire for the mesh.

For those unfamiliar with the subject, a summary: a ham radio guy used a custom built corner-reflector antenna and a war-surplus radio originally installed in a tank for a radio astronomy experiment to hear the RF generated by Jupiter. A radio magazine had an article on the radio system NASA was using on the moon that included the frequencies. He modified his radio and was able to receive the transmissions from Apollo 11. If I recall correctly (been a few years since I read the article) what he received was the signal from Armstrong's suit, specifically. Somebody at Apollohoax forum did a signal to noise ratio analysis and found the levels of his recordings were indeed correct for that small of a signal received by that size of antenna.

And this is why I'm no longer a member at Delusional Idiots: I kept mentioning things like this for which the "NASA = nazi" DIFbats had no intelligent response. And I got a mod fired, so the incestuous cohort of Icke sycophants united against all of us. I call it the Apollo Pogrom/Final Solution. They set a trap and sprang it when I poked it with a stick.
