AP News: "Let's go, Brandon" is really code for "**** Joe Biden"

I think the connection I'm having trouble with is why an audience watching a NASCAR race would spontaniously start chanting "F Joe Biden" out of the blue. I mean...why? It seems so random.

It started and spread at football games and was sung to the "tune" of "let's go Niners" clap-clap clap-clap-clap, for example. A well known ballpark chant if you substitute the local team name for "niners". Videos of the chant at various football stadiums started going viral about a month or so ago. Then during the NASCAR interview, the chant started likely because someone saw a live interview in process. It escalated, and then the journalist interviewing either heard it incorrectly or, more likely, tried to cover up by mentioning that she heard the chants of "Let's go Brandon" during the interview. Then the thing exploded.

I learned about this on Oct. 5th (a right-wing friend shared and 'splained). Humans like in-jokes, and this was sorta funny, but now it's jumped the shark. At this point, it's like people repeating a catch-phrase from a Super Bowl beer commercial. It's embarrassing.

ETA: It's also silly that people on Twitter threatened to boycott Southwest if the dumb pilot wasn't fired.

They should boycott. Once companies realize people on Twitter are not the same thing as the old rule that one letter represented 20,0000 angry customers who were too lazy to write, the better.

The assumption is twitter explosion is all bite and no bark. If no hit to bottom line actually happens...

After "I identify as a helicopter," I've been asking the right to get a new joke for what seems like a decade.

I now formally rescind that request, and regret ever making it in the first place.

The YouTube More News jut dropped an hour-long episode about conservative "comedy"

One of the main points is that presently, conservative humor doesn't seem to involve actually making jokes. It is just griping. There's no setup, or payoff, or punchline, or any of the things normally associated with "jokes". And when you point out that their "joke" wasn't funny, they pretend it was some sort of Andy Kauffman-style meta-joke. Of course, even then, it fails.

It's this or black face. Take your pick.

or the oh so clever "teabaggers".

The funny thing about that one is that it was initially a self-identification. "Tea Party" enthusiasts had taken to mailing tea bags to politicians and some started calling themselves "teabaggers". Detractors just kind of ran with it after that.

Have you met a lot of NASCAR fans?

Can Norm MacDonald fairly be called "right wing"? Serious question. I could never get a handle on his political leanings with regard to the U.S.

I still think it's funny, but it's almost sure to go on too long, like these sorts of things always do.
If it continues to build momentum, the CDC will discover the highly contagious and deadly zeta or iota COVID variant and shut down all public sporting events.

I had previously known that 'Brandon' was a thing, but didn't care enough to figure out what kind of thing it was. So thanks to the AP for clearing that up.

Inside jokes are mostly shibboleths, not so much jokes as a means of establishing your bona fides in some group or another, but this is at least mildly funny. And I'm already sick of it.

I thought they were guys who liked to watch cars turn towards the left really fast over and over and over while not really getting anywhere. Not the type for political philosophy, I'd assume. Maybe they think Biden is a bit of a hottie and are expressing a deep repressed desire? Dunno.

Liberals are apparently tired of this joke already. Meanwhile, over in the ISF Trump threads...

Politically-driven humor seems a bit subjective. Age-wise, this joke is actually relatively "fresh".

When Trump's back in office, he'll have them turning right. And the lack of progress is part of the point.

It's strongly associated with "southern" culture, which leans heavily to the right here. Let's just say I wasn't even mildly shocked that "**** Joe Biden" quickly picked up steam when someone started it.

Eh. No worse than airports playing CNN all the time to a captive audience.

Way worse, in my opinion. Airport departure lounges are one thing. But however sympathetic I am to their political views I may be, politics are not everything. Even my worst political enemy deserves an airline pilot who stays focused on doing his job, and keeps his political opinions to himself.
