Anti-Muslim Terrorist Attack in... NZ?

What's unusual is when skeptics would rather get on their high horse than try to understand why things are different in different parts of the world

We already know how Baylor goes about trying "to understand why things are different in different parts of the world," which is the reason why he will never understand anything.
But for his information (the rest of you already know): In this case, a white supremacist Trump fan killed 50 people for being Muslims - not unlike Breivik, who killed 77 people, most of them Norwegian Social Democrats, for being daft, naïve kids because they didn't hate Muslims like he does.

The police are not routinely armed?

Correct. TheAtheist has answered, but I will give you a more full answer.

New Zealand Police are trained to use Glock 17s and Bushmaster XM15 M4A3 rifles, but patrol officers do not routinely carry them; they carry pepper spray, batons and tasers. Only the Diplomatic Protection Squad and Airport officers routinely carry firearms. P-Cars (Patrol Cars) also do not have firearms.

Since 2012, NZ police I-Cars (Incident Cars) have had a locked box in the passenger foot-well containing a loaded and holstered Glock 17, and in the rear of the vehicle, there is at least one Bushmaster rifle secured in a case together with ballistic vests. The vehicles are fitted with glass break car alarms. Each officer in the vehicle carries a set of vehicle keys and a set of safe keys. Officers are required to advise their supervisor or communications if a firearm is to be retrieved from their vehicle and carried. I have it on good authority that the CIB's unmarked D-Cars (Detective Cars) also have the same fitout as I-Cars and are under the same restrictions.

Upthread I saw that there's no security screening for domestic flights in New Zealand?

Yes and no

There is security screening on the main routes Auckland <-> Wellington <-> Christchurch. There is no security screening on the smaller regional airports, although with the recent refit and upgrade of Nelson Airport, there is the possibility that it will start happening here.

Just how White is your country?

Why should NZs ethnic makeup have anything to do with airport security?

You're getting hung up on a figure of speech. In a modern 21st Century country that enjoys the vibrant diversity of multiculturalism--like the United States--literally "kicking in a door" to serve a search warrant isn't common only because most people are not strong enough to break down an exterior door with their foot with one kick. But when police serve a search warrant they will use whatever force is necessary to gain entry to the area they want to search rapidly enough to ensure the occupants cannot resist, escape, or destroy evidence. This ensures that excessive force will be applied most of the time and that the event will be terrifying and very dangerous to anybody who is inside.

If "kicking in a door" to serve a search warrant is unfathomable in New Zealand, we're dealing with a disconnect between the way New Zealander's conceptualize serving a search warrant and the way Americans conceptualize it.

Utter drivel

If you say kicking in a door, I take that to literally mean that you think doors are being kicked in. If that is not what you mean, then don't say it.

There is no such thing as a "no-knock" warrant in NZ, and it is very rare for NZ Police to make forcible entry to serve a warrant. If it does happen, its the STG or the AOS who would be doing it.

The New Zealand way simply would not work in the United States.

Big deal. Who cares what works in the United States when we are talking about the NZ Police.

So what is the point of reporting that Brendan Tarrant will not be guarded by White law enforcement officers (as had been erroneously reported in an earlier story) and that the officers who transported him to jail were not of European extraction?

No poutrage. I'm just curious. This is not something that gets reported in our newspapers.

Its more how its going to be uncomfortable for him, given his hatred for brown people.

I hope he likes his food cooked and delivered by brown people, because there's about an 80% chance in the cooking and 60-70 on delivery.

Crikey, if the bloke's crying after a week of it, just imagine what state he'll be in after half a century of being handled by darkies.

Has anyone sent the first invoice to Australia? I haven't seen Morrison offering to pick up the tab, so we should just go ahead and bill them.

Still freaks me out a tad seeing the cops in airports with guns, even after years.

Diplomatic protection I have just got used to.

It sounds like NZ police have a more relaxed attitude than their US counterparts. Must be nice.

Airport security is related to the overall crime rates. Predominately White countries tend to have lower crime rates although Asian countries with little cultural diversity are also quite safe. If NZ is safe enough for airport security to be as lax as you say, you probably have a majority White population, very few indigenous Africans, and limited multiculturalism. Ethnic makeup has everything to do with airport security.

I didn't. Somebody else used the phrase as a figure of speech.

I'm just noting a difference between two countries. No need for a hissy fit. (that's also a figure of speech. I'm not implying that you are literally convulsing on ground while making hissing noises)

Certainly is, and we have a gun death rate that is 1/12 of USA.

Nice of you to come right out and be racist - hiding your light under a bushel is always a bit dishonest, by my view.

NZ has a much greater diversity of different cultures than USA and most other countries, with 25% of our population born outside NZ. NZ, Australia & Singapore have the highest rates of foreign births outside of the Arab states and a couple of very small countries.

Your premise is not just racist, but complete nonsense as well.

"Facebook's response to the Christchurch tragedy has confirmed this hard-headed approach, particularly considering director Peter Thiel's relationship with this country.

Thiel was an early Facebook investor and joined the social media company's board inApril 2005.

He was granted New Zealand citizenship in June 2011 after spending only 12 days in the country. His application for citizenship was backed by Trade Me founder Sam Morgan and Xero founder Rod Drury.

Prime Minister Bill English later defended the decision, saying Thiel had "demonstrated his commitment to New Zealand".

Thiel, who has purchased a 193 hectare sheep station near Lake Wanaka, has a fascination with New Zealand, with The Guardian reporting him as saying he'd found "no other country that aligns more with my view of the future than New Zealand".

One view of the future is contained in the 1997 book The Sovereign Individual — How to Survive and Thrive during the collapse of the Welfare State, jointly written by James Dale Davidson and Lord William Rees-Mogg. The latter is the father of Jacob Rees-Mogg, who is playing a major role in the UK Brexit debacle.

A central thesis of the book, which is one of Thiel's top six reads, is that the rapid development of information technology will empower individuals, leading to the demise of the nation state.

This could lead to widespread social disorder, and Davidson and Rees-Mogg identify New Zealand and Argentina as the best countries to maintain lifestyles and protect assets during political and social crises.

This view is held by several Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. For example, the October 10, 2016 New Yorker profile of Sam Altman, the successful angel investor, notes "if the pandemic does come, Altman's backup plan is to fly with his friend Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist, to Thiel's house in New Zealand".
The Guardian journalist took a cynical view of this strategy, commenting: "The plan from this point, you'd assume, was to sit out the collapse of civilisation before re-emerging to provide seed-funding for, say, the insect-based protein sludge market."

Zuckerberg's and Thiel's silence in the aftermath of the March 15 tragedy is notable, particularly considering that the Christchurch terrorist represents the dark side of "The Sovereign Individual" empowered by the rapid development of information technology.

Neither Zuckerberg nor Thiel has made any comments on the March 15 Christchurch terrorist attacks on Facebook's Newsroom website."

The most famous gun slaughter in New Zealand is when Robin Bain killed his family then held the gun touching his temple and shot himself, with a 10 round semi auto 22

Yet

"The exemptions would be semi-automatic .22 rifles (with a magazine which holds no more than 10 rounds)"

Ridiculous but that is how pious NZ rolls.

Give me break

How many conspiracy straws is it possible to grasp at the same time?

The most famous gun slaughter in New Zealand was the murder of 50 faithful muslims in two Christchurch mosques by a white supremacist.
