Anti-British feeling from BP oil leak?

Because "they" didn't tell me. The president did.

He passed on what BP and the Coastguard told him. Would you rather he did not tell you anything? I thought you guys wanted transparency from Obama?

See? Obama is in charge. He said so. Since he's in charge, I blame him.

No, because you hate him, you blame him and call him a liar.

I think it is interesting that some of you will not say he is a liar, because he got bad info. Yet when Bush makes a statement with bad info, he's the biggest liar ever. Hmmmm

Bush is of no consequence to this discussion. It does, however, show why you are obsessed with casting false allegations.

ETA - As above - Lets see this "promise"

I hear crickets.

I went ahead and looked it up myself. The press turned a wish into a "promise." Obama never actually "promised" anything. The press just called it a "promise."

Gulf oil spill: Will Obama regret his '90 percent' promise?

President Obama said in his Oval Office address that he wants "up to 90 percent" of the Gulf oil spill leak contained by the end of the month. He is putting his faith in an uncertain BP plan.

President Obama's declaration that he'd like to see "up to 90 percent" of the Gulf oil spill geyser contained in the next few weeks is a best-case scenario in a worst-case kind of disaster.
. . .
BP and its promises to stem the oil are firmly in "the boy who cried wolf" territory. Yet Mr. Obama, in one of the most important speeches of his presidency, pinned no small amount of his credibility in the crisis on a plan that BP itself is trying to downplay.

Given BP's performance, it was unwise – and unnecessary, to boot, says Alan Abramowitz, a political scientist at Emory University in Atlanta.

"The '90 percent' line reminds me about the promise that if the stimulus bill is passed, unemployment will peak at 8 percent," says Mr. Abramowitz. "He could've said, 'We'll be able to capture more of it,' but when you put out a number, then people are going to come back and say, 'How come this didn't happen?' From everything that's happened so far, I'd be surprised if they can actually achieve that."

Obama never "promised" that unemployment would peak at 8 percent either, but never mind.

See? Obama is in charge. He said so. Since he's in charge, I blame him.

I think that's fair enough. If Obama wants to say it's on him, then yes, it should be on him.

However, I don't see how that precludes ALSO holding BP responsible. Even the courts have no problem partitioning liability. I think the crappy government oversight was in part to blame, and ultimately that's Obama's responsibility.

That certainly doesn't mean that BP should get off scot free.

If Obama bears any responsibility for the corruption at MMS, it is just for not having discovered the extent of that corruption until after the blow-out. The blame for corrupting the agency lies with the shrub and his oil company shill VP. The conduct of the former administration rises to criminal levels.

That certainly doesn't mean that BP should get off scot free.

BP, Haliburton and Transocean all owe us billions, and some of their suits deserve jail time.

We are not the only copuntry that crime cartel has poisoned. They pull stupid, deadly crap becausevthey think money will get them out of anything. So far, it has.

Time for that to stop.

Evidence this applies to the board of directors. All of them.

Unless a member of the board of directors goes on the record publicly admitting that they acted like slobs or quits in disgust, they wear the schmutz.

So add ignorance of what a board of directors actually does to your list of shame.

From a populist perspective it plays quite well - it's the foreign company's responsibility -it's relatively easy to stoke up the nationalist sentiment (as Obama et al are doing)

And obviously BP share a large chunk of the blame....

however, there was some American right-wing idiot on the radio who was blaming Britain for this spill. It was explained that BP was a multinational (British) company - not state owned, but this seemed to cut no ice - no it was a British company therefore it was Britain's fault.

Then I was thinking, if the roles were reversed, and American Petroleum had caused a similar spill off the coast of the UK - well, we have plenty of morons here in the UK as well who'd probably blame America for that.....

So, is there anti-British sentiment in the US as a result of this?

Discuss :)
It's amusing (to me) in this context that now that the well has been killed and plugged that BP America felt it appropriate that they should release a statement about the success of the relief well in addition to the statement made by Tony Hayward.
