Appeal to motives fallacy.

That is not always fallacious, especially where there is money to be made, and where money is spent to advance a given end. Why else would a corporation have an interest in the outcome of a campaign to remove a law that has guaranteed a resource for the useless class?

The bill as passed wasn't 18 months old. And damned few people in Congress actually read the thing. Perhaps it wasn't an issue of time, but the complete contents of the bill were indeed not known to many people. And still aren't.

Have any numbers on that? I get the feeling that few Republicans in Congress read it, for sure. They complained enough about it being too long to read.

I don't think anyone does. But that's my estimate based on hearing multiple congresspeople (including democrats) say they had not read the bill, and never having heard that any stated they had read the bill.

They complained enough about it being too long to read.

I seriously doubt that any Congresspersons read any bills at all. That's what they have staff and lobbyists for. Thus a) the health care bill is no different than any other bill regarding who has read it and b) whining about it being too long to read is just politics and has nothing to do with good policy.
