Another cop murders a suspect

The full, I assume unedited video, is now on the OP's link. There was no scuffle. Guilty as charged, life.
The cop goes on to say to another cop, 'I had my arm trapped in the car as he drove away...'. A blatant lie. Did the murderer not know his cam was running?

Dude, that is so sad to watch. Just wrenching.

A little sideways to the subject, but relevant to the question of why people become cops, I'm reminded of a long ago dialogue between a childhood friend and the Connecticut trooper who eventually became state Chief of police. The friend, who was of the opinion that many cops take the job because they are self righteous and want to become the hammer of God, said he thought this man was the healthiest cop he'd ever met. When asked why he became a trooper, he said he liked the snappy uniforms and liked to drive fast.

My bad... piss-poor short term memory.

Toward, not across. A bit nit-pickish, friend.
Sorry, I wasn't worried about picking your nits, I just thought it was interesting how quickly the story starts to change. It's a phenomena that I find fascinating.

I should tell you the story of my firstborn son sometime then. Somehow, within minutes of the birth, I got congratulations from guys in my unit on 'my twins' and 'my little girl'.

Believe it or not, the story gets wilder and longer over the next six months...

He expected the other officer to back him up. Why else did the partner of the officer who shot the guy running away then dropped a gun that he was carrying back him up?

They know the other cops have their back.

Here is the video without the censored shot.

The only scuffle is the guy resisting the cop opening the car door and then the victim might be putting the car in gear to take off, it's hard to tell. The prosecutor said the cop should have let him take off. I think the prosecutor said something like, "so what".

It's clear the cop's arm and gun are outside the window when he pulls the trigger. He shot the guy because the guy wasn't doing what he asked him to do. And that's not the same as the cop feeling endangered. It's that power trip. It's about time more attention was brought to the issue.

It's been going on since cops existed. But there are more and more cameras now catching these cops in their cover-up lying.

I should mention, the plate was in the glove box and the bottle of gin was unopened.

Stupid criminals frequently make stupid mistakes.

Straight up murder.

This is why I support requiring all cops to have dash and body cameras.

This should serve to make people a tad skeptical of what some police officers are capable of. What if there is no body cam? Just a statement from the other occupant of the vehicle, that the officer's arm was NOT inside the vehicle, that there was NO struggle?

In that case I think we know how this thread would be proceeding.

Yeah, but in the video the only criminal was wearing uniform and carrying a gun.

Not much of a difference in critical thinking skills between stupid criminals that are cops and stupid criminals that aren't cops.

If you listen closely, you can hear him start the car.

Steve S
That makes sense because I think earlier in the video you see him turn the key off. So essentially the prosecutor said the cop had other options.

This seems to happen a lot, cops killing fleeing people that pose no other threat. That's not in the cop's job description and fleeing is not a capital offense. But I'm sure more than a few people will say that puts the blame on the victim. There's some psychological barrier to being objective about police overreach.

Not at all, but here is not the place. If I can be bothered, I may start a thread, but I'll guess it's been done to death and I'm too tired/lazy to do a search at the moment.

I watched a good proportion of the trial. I understand DNA evidence. He was guilty. The jury was snookered by the defense team tap dance.

How the scuffle, then.
They scuffled over something but no source I've seen so far has much of a description.

Did you watch the video? Scuffle is not the word I would use.

Cop asks him to take his seat belt off and opens the door (he remained calm in professional), perp pulls the door closed, puts the key in the ignition and puts the car in drive.

Cop pulls out his gun and shoots the fleeing suspect.
