If they are going to shut down the internet website, how does it affect investors that are physically there doing the transactions? Are anonymous really naive thinking that the stock market works only through internet??

Random attacks are possible, but a constant attack system is quite impossible without risking betraying your own ip address, which for FBI is as good as a street address complete with a flat number. You would need a virus to create an attack that keeps going on without your personal attendance, and the virus would soon be discovered and neutralized.

Then came a YouTube video posted on Saturday, using a computer-generated voice which said, "Many people refuse to accept that Operation Invade Wall Street is a reality. ... I am here to clarify that factions of Anonymous are going with the operation. Other factions are opposing it."

The voice, flat and idiomatic, concluded, "Those who are going to be part of the attack have a message to the NYSE: We have you because we don't like you. We are all anonymous. We are all one legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. NYSE, expect those of us who plan to destroy you."

Ray Pellecchia, a spokesman for NYSE Euronext, said, "We don't comment on security." Separately, a source said the exchange was functioning normally. At the close, the Dow was up 330 points.

Ha - "expect those of us who plan to destroy you". Like they "destroyed" the Church of Scientology?

ABC News says the NYSE public website was slowed down significantly for a short period of time yesterday, but it had no effect whatever on the NYSE's real-world business.

Well.."real, fake" whatever. Since anybody can post or do anything as "Anonymous" there's really no such thing as real or fake. And if Anonymous (as the group) is supposed to represent a cross-section of internet users, as its self-proclaimed members insist, then some of these participants are probably tween hangers-on with a tenuous command of English.

IIRC, Anonymous hacked into the CIA's computers, and a few days later there were unsmiling men in black suits at fourteen of their members' doors. If I were them, I would not underestimate the FBI's capabilities as far as detecting the sources of DDoS attacks.
