Random attacks are possible, but a constant attack system is quite impossible without risking betraying your own ip address, which for FBI is as good as a street address complete with a flat number. You would need a virus to create an attack that keeps going on without your personal attendance, and the virus would soon be discovered and neutralized.

Once again, Anonymous comes up with a "great idea" that a few seconds' thought would discredit. I swear, sometimes they're like a seven-year-old who insists on trying to "help" and manages to burn down the house.
Crashing the NYSE website won't do anything but piss off middle-class daytraders and retirees who use the web for trading. Banks and financial corporations have actual people in the building; they're the folks you see swarming all over the floor in photographs and videos, with headset phones looking at live data.
No. They're sever-year-olds who want to simply burn the house down.
Then the "Occupy Wall Street" folks are idiots for embracing them.

Explains why they don't seem to be accomplishing much, I suppose.

Oh come on, people really think they're going to shut down the NYSE? Or are they going to mildly disrupt their corporate website? (which is probably no more frequented than the threads about it here)
It took a community of gamers three weeks what a decade or more of scientific research couldn't accomplish.
