And the boats keep coming

As I see it one of the reasons why people go to the smugglers is because it's difficult for these people to use safer modes of transport to get here and apply for asylum. I figure that by changing this you'd be able to reduce the number of people embarking on these dangerous boat journeys, the problem is that you can't seem to explain it to people without them thinking that I want to remove all border controls, as demonstrated earlier in this thread.

And there are many willing to paint making it easier for asylum seekers to enter in such a way. The other thing that may well need to be addressed and money spent is on settlement efforts for these people.

The story seems to be gathering some momentum now. Nothing yet from the left news sources like The Age, The Drum etc that I have seen. I reckon the next 48 hours will see some action if there is anything to it.

But assuming this next stage of censorship is right, what are people's thoughts?

I tend to read The Age and sometimes others in the Fairfax stable on-line simply because News Ltd stuff has become so obviously lowest common denominator crap.

Indeed, the Age will often even hide the truth - well.. for as long as possible anyway - from the ignorant masses.

They really are. If you don't live in Fitzroy and vote Green, they have little relevance.

Their circulation and share price confirms their sad demise from what was once a quality paper.
These figures aren't exact and I will happily be corrected but as I understand it:
The (Fairfax) share price is $0.72c. It was once $5.25. Ouch!
The Age's circulation is now 190,000 it was once 670,000 (2008).

And I don't believe they have a single conservative journalist on staff.

And I am wondering if this is not a reflection of a general decline in newsprint. I'd like to see how their online services are going in the marketplace.

Yeah but you believe a lot of demonstrable BS, you believe pretty much everything that is force fed to you by News Ltd, so what you believe has nothing to do with reality.

Chris Berg
Gerard Henderson
Daniel Fitton
Paul Sheehan
Spooner with his rgular denier pieces in the Sat Age

And that's just off the top of my head for regular contributors (once a week or more), there are plenty of other conservative voices who get published on an irregular basis.

Once again your ignorance becomes you, Alfie.

The problem is more like you only get one flavour which severely limits your diet and perspective. I read the Age, The Drum, The Herald Sun and other publications. You on the other hand read little more than the Good Moron Green weekly.

Anything in the left wing extremist source that is Crikey!?

I've already demonstrated that you characteristisation of Crikey as such is a load of bunkum, you believe it is because you've been told it is by the like of Andrew Bolt.

Do you understand the difference between staff and contributor?

And right back at you. My diet is broader than yours it seems given a daily intake of left and right. You on the other hand only digest left wing propaganda. So who is swallowing what?

Now back on topic and the question I asked, have Crikey made any comment about the boat people and media censorship?

Or that the sort of people who read broadsheets are more likely to go out and discover new mediums for news.

Sorry, Gerard is a died in the wool lefty. His blog was titled "Dissent" IIRC.

Journalists shouldn't be left or right, conservative or progressive. Opinion is a different matter, and they would probably be best described as pundits. I am open to another descriptor, but Journalist shouldn't be it.

Henderson is a commentator not a journalist.
