American? VOTE!

I read a brief summary of the candidates on our local ballot. it said that I should look for the candidates with an R after their name, and that R stands for Replace.

I say, Replace 'em all!

By your non participation you condone what is done to you by those who give enough of a sh** to go out and vote.

Logically that does not follow.

No, you don't have a right to complain beyond the reasoned complaint, that I share with you, of there rarely being a decent third choice.

What is wrong in your area, no local races? We had dozens of names on the ballot, and plenty of Libertarians and independents to vote for, in protest if nothing else. (Of course, in Texas, we vote for some judge positions, which is not true in all places.)

It is all well and good to say vote 3rd party but...come on now. Be serious.

Get out the protest vote. Jesse Ventura pulled it off. It can be done. Of course, one has to start a few months before election day.

Consider this: if all eligible citizens registered in 2004, and then voted, and all of them voted for you as a write in, rather than either Kerry or Bush, you'd have won by about a 15 million vote margin and be President today.

Apathy and despair is what allows the two party system to remain the model.

I don't plan to vote at all.

And yes I have a right to complain. I am complaining that there is no one worth voting for. I hope you suckers enjoy voting for the lesser of two evils instead of someone you actually believe in.

That is the position I have espoused and practiced for years! Are you a recent convert? I think our momentum is building!

A protest vote is indestinguishable from an "educated" vote.

For the first time in 26 years, I am not voting this election. The state I live in, everyone votes by mail. So when you move just before the election, like I just did, you don't get your ballot in time. It goes to your old address.

The guy who bought our house is from California. So I imagine he is filling out my and my wife's ballots for us along the straight Democrat ticket.

Somehow, this doesn't bother me much.

I'd like a Democrat House and a barely Republican Senate. That way, the few conservative Republican Senators that are there will have more influence as the swing vote.

As for the Democrats and the number one issue, Iraq, they have two choices. Cut and run, or increase troop strength and finish the goddam job the way it should be done.

With the White House up for grabs just two years from now, I don't see them taking a gamble on increasing troop strength and doing the job right.

So it's cut and run time.

Saw Dick Armey and Thomas Daschle on the Lehrer News Hour last night discussing today's elections.

I never knew Armey was such a big freaking pussy. How he ever made House leader is beyond me. Or maybe that is exactly how he made leader, by rolling over for EVERYONE.

Don't know why I had to mention this.

The guy just disgusted me.

Why did Daschle not get the 2004 nom for Pres? Dean self immolated, and Kerry was rather uncharasimatic, had no vision. He seemed to have been chosen for his war record, due to there being a war.

What was wrong with Daschle?

Don't know about back then, but for 2008, he looks too much like Ted Haggard.

The "first-past-the-post" voting system is actually what favours the two-party outcome. In Australiafor examplevoting is compulsory (turnout rates are above 90%) and elections are on Saturdays. They still have a two-horse race between the Liberal/National alliance and the Labor party.

Apathy is what allows people to say "The Abstention Party won"
