American dictatorship/autocracy - what will it look like?

It won't look much different from now. It won't LOOK much different. And the differences will creep in much gradually. And you'll be hearing FREEDOM so much you won't believe it.
The rich will keep getting richer, faster. The police will become more and more powerful. Censorship will creep in in the name of FREEDOM, because speech the powers don't like is what they'll call censorship. The Earth will keep getting warmer, but you won't hear much about it because scientists and educational institutions will find their funding threatened. Overt religious control of government institutions will become easier because of favorable court rulings -- but only the right religions of course. Voting will become harder -- no more mail ballots, early voting, or readily accessible polling stations in areas where the wrong people live. School curriculums will be increasingly restricted -- no sex education, CRT, or woke ideologies allowed!
And you can already see all of this happening, can't you?
And you can see all of these trends already happening.

This is what some folks don't get. It won't be some big violent take over. It will the eroding of rights and protections and services in some areas. It will be the social and legal attacks on "others". It will be deputizing certain segments of the population to be "enforcers" of cultural norms.

It wil lbe stuff that has happeend throughout American hsitory and is happening already. And it is all sold as "giving us more freedom".

The impending MAGA dystopia will consist of a small handful of left-wingers holed up in their makeshift bunkers watching MSNBC, reading Newsweek and listening to NPR with a thumb in one orifice and a butt plug in the other.

It will be business as usual for the rest of the world.

So which MAGA dystopia are we going to experience? The messaging is very confused and Trump himself has no idea.

It must suck at times to hate your own country as much as you seem to.
And the Trumpers love that you have pretty much given up.
Of course I suspect your real problem is the USA is not as far to the left as you would like it to be

Thing is MAGA is itself is very divided; you have a major split between the Libertarian wing and the Religious wing for one.
And what happens when Trump kicks the bucket> I can't see anybody rising to taske his place; that is the thing about personality cults, once the personlaty is gone they fall apart.

Sad to say, too many people here have taken the easy wayout and just gave in to despair.

I haven't given in to despair--I'm a pacifist and I'd take up arms if necessary--but I think you are vastly underestimating how stupid and easily manipulated the majority of our society is. They've already allowed the two party system to give us a choice no one really wants to make. People are--in general--complacent. Until climate change causes all our water to evaporate and people dropping in the street from 140 degree heat, no one will give up their SUV. Even then, they won't, they'll just yell at windmills. People will be happy under their new Supreme Leader unless gas prices hit $10 a gallon, and in the short term they won't, because the dictator will drain what is left of our resources to be adored in the short term, and in the long term it won't matter cause we'll all be dead... OK,, I'm giving in to despair...:boggled::blush:

I'm unsure of this. Trump Jr. is obviously auditioning for the part. Tucker has stayed in the wings cause he'd love the title of MAGA ruler. I do agree the fallout from his departure might be quite disruptive to them.

ETA: I don't think there is much of a libertarian wing, most Libertarian's despise Trump. MAGA is really 1) the religious 2) the white supremacists and 3) the conspiracy theorists. They're all nuts.

That's OK. Not everyone is a fighter. But some are, and all I ask is for them to.look the other way, for their own piece of mind. Fascists will not win here. Period.

You already have.
WHich of couse only helps Trump.
One of the problems with the net is we have way too many Intellectual Wannabes who see themselves as exponents of Existantial despair.
And of course, it is a wonderful excuse for not really taking any action.
THis is not some freaking intellectual game, folks.

Settle down, Sparky. My reaction was to the word I highlighted.

Ooo, I’ll take a couple filets of the arrogant naïveté. Is it fresh today? Wild caught?

SO we should just give up?

No, you just need to get over the idea of some Aaron Sorkin protagonist riding in on a white horse, sitting all the noisy people down and saying "cut the malarkey! America is this perfect country that always does the right thing!" and gives some rousing speech romanticizing long dead slave owners.

Its not hate. Its having standards. I want my country to reach its potential. Not hang on its front porch reminiscing in some false past.

Its not giving up. Its assessing the situation realistically. Nothing I've said means "give up". In fact, I am trying to encourage people to fight harder i nways that will have real positive effect. Think of it as me being the grant to your McClellan.

Of course I suspect your real problem is the USA is not as far to the left as you would like it to be

I mean, can we at least be in the same place we were under LBJ? Without the Viet Nam stuff, of course.
