Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth sequel stresses spiritual argument on climate

gtc;5278269 I would have thought the man who [URL="http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp" said:
'took the initiative in creating the internet' [/URL]would be able to do better.

Given its context in your post I have to wonder if you actually read what you linked.

Allow me to quote:

Claim: Vice-President Al Gore claimed that he "invented" the Internet.

Status: False.

Origins: Despite the derisive references that continue even today, Al Gore did not claim he "invented" the Internet, nor did he say anything that could reasonably be interpreted that way.

I'm still at a loss to figure out how this translates into you linking to a page that specifically debunks such derision?

I linked to it because I knew that Democrat partisans would try to argue that he has been misquoted. The link proves that he actually said those words and does not debunk the derision. The author specifically states that whether his claim was justifiable is open to debate.

Why shouldn't he be subject to derision for his hyperbole?

The Internet grew out of government funded research programs and the National Labs. Al Gore was the guy in Congress who made sure these programs got funded at a time when few others recognized the potential.

The man is a wanker and is endlessly amusing. Its also amusing the way the partisans are so quick to disown him.

Going back to the opening post, may I note that many of our citizens are not really clued in on science, math and logic. Unlike the JREF gang, they seldom recognize logical fallacies and invalid arguments. (For example, the personal attack and bandwagon appeal in your quoted post). They are prone to believe in conspiracy theories, a fact that has been widely exploited by the CO2 deniers. They can't relate to and don't understand what motivates the scientists who work at our National Labs.

Many of these folks do however respond to appeals phrased in the language of religion. A sacred duty to preserve the planet for our children and our children's children does make sense to them.

Yup - agree with the above. I don't know the science behind it all but I've met people like Mr Gore and I can spot his type a mile off. Wouldn't surprise me at all to discover he was a liar. In fact I think that was proved in a UK court wasn't it?

Global warming is very much like a religion. Another thing recently ruled in a UK court of law. I think his new tactic will work just fine. Should make him loads more money.

I don't think it's right to manipulate a person's religious beliefs in order to advance one's agenda.

Civil Rights movement anyone? Martin Luther King?

I think it depends on the agenda.

And why the hell not? All organized religion is manipulative! It exists to manipulate people to serve the interests of the religion and its clergy.

^^^^Someone call the wahmbulance, there's been a wahcident.

Would it help if I apologise for ever doubting the credibility and numerous marvellous achievements of St Gore?

He has zero significance to me or to any of my friends who are Democratic Party activists. He seems to be a very significant character to unbalanced people on the Right, though.

That crazy unbalanced right-wing Noble Prize Foundation. (Those crazy unbalanced right-wing Hollywood Academy Award voters).

Ahh, okay. You're one of those Anti-GW conspiracy theorists.

That's cool. Carry on with your alternate reality.

The link explicitly says that claim is false. At this point I have to conclude you simply linked it without reading because it says the exact opposite of what you seem to think.

Gore's fanbase seem to be wankers too.

And the anti-GW conspiracy theorists seem to have a great deal of fun with the Al Gore strawman instead of actually coming up with arguments that don't basically amount to ad hominem.

Is he saying that his audience are too stupid to be convinced by the science or is he saying that his grasp of the science is so weak that he has to scare mongering people with threats of H E L L if they don't replace their lightbulbs with energy savers?

I would have thought the man who 'took the initiative in creating the internet' would be able to do better.

I think Gore may have watched Penn and Teller's Bullsh!t episode on Global Warming with Carbon being the new sin. He probably thought, "AH HAH! THATS PERFECT! LETS GO ALL THE WAY!!!"

Why do people even care what Gore said?

I think this was covered.

YOU don't care what he has to say, for whatever the reasons, and think that everyone else should follow suit. Which also leads me to speculate that you may, in fact, be embarrassed by him after all, and just wish he would disappear from the public eye. You certainly have tried very hard to make him as seem as inconsequential as you can.

I don't think it was covered. Gore is a politician. His efforts on the climate change front are worth noting, but the only people who consider Gore the spokesperson for the issue of climate change are ant-GW conspiracy theorists and Al Gore himself, as well as some of Gore's die-hard followers.
