Adolf Hitler wins election

This is silly. What the hell are we supposed to think if somebody names his kid after Adolf Hitler?

Well for a start, you can stop thinking like a westerner born in a modern western country with a modern education system and assuming that everyone else on the planet has those same advantages and knowledge.

Your entire premise is based on the fallacy that a person probably educated in the 1940-1950s in a small country in Africa that didn't even gain independence until 1990 would have all the educational advantages you do and think exactly as you do. That's fundamentally crazy, and it's a mistake you repeat with this post...

Probably goes down to an attempt to make a few bucks off of pure shock value.

You again assume that people in a foreign nation whose culture and understanding of the world see it in the exact same way that you do. This is a type of false-consensus bias. Not everyone sees the world the same way you do, and not everyone has the education you got. Not everyone has the knowledge you have. A guy who lived in a place that was considered a Black Reservation, and where the Capital city that had just over 16,000 people in 2001 and still has less than 60,000 now, who named his kid in 1955, did not have the same knowledge and understanding you do today or even might have had in 1955. South West Africa was about as far away from WW2 as one can get. Why is it such a hard thought for you that a person living in what was a German Colony until 1915 and still had a lot of German connections, might have named his kid after someone that was a popular German leader of the 1930's?

One of the terrorists who attacked the Boston Marathon was named after TamerlaneWP, also known as Timur, whose bloody warmongering made him similarly infamous as Hitler in much of southern and western Asia.

Timur the lame.

Lots of Hungarians named Attilla too, I've even met one. I suspect there are more than a few Mongolians named Ghengis, Russians named Ivan, Englishmen named Oliver......

I also currently work with a guy named Napolean, he's Filipino though.

Lots of Davids out there too, and he was an ******* even by biblical standards. Alexanders, Julii, Cesars, the world is full of people named after mass murderers. Any Stalins out there?

Other anecdotes, I explained why meeting Attila the Hungarian was so cool to my Uighur flat mate by saying he was the Ghengis Khan of Europe.
