Split Thread A second impeachment

They are arguing Trump should be tried in criminal court. I actually agree with that. The Senate acquitting Trump however might be used to argue against the prosecution.

Wah wah... it's not fair.

No he's arguing they need witnesses so they can cross examine them. :id:

I don't know why anyone is surprised that politicians, in a trial that really isn't a trial, aren't going to present any real evidence and instead just debate politics.

Yes it's all political. "Coups are bad" is just a partisan notion.

No they aren't. They are arguing that whatever we are doing to Trump now isn't the right way to do it. There will never be a right way to do it.

Doing it when he was President wasn't the right way to do it.
Doing it when he is no longer President isn't the right way to do it.
Doing it in courts won't be the right way to do it either, don't kid yourself.

The guy seems to be arguing that the Senate can't try him because they aren't doing it right.

lol at the post-its sticking out of his handy little portable constitution.

I'm also quite bothered by how he drinks water. Not sure why.

I've the eerie feeling that I've seen this strange drinking gesture in some movie. I can almost see the actor doing it.

Well, might be déjà vu...
Very strange.

Why is he covering his roof while he's drinking?

Twitter is saying that he normally wears a yarmulke (sp?), but isn't for this. I don't understand the reason why.

Anyway, he's touching his head out of habit to keep his yarmulke from falling off when he leans back to take a drink.

Schoen probably shouldn't be channeling Sean Spicer at this moment. He shares the same kind of blustery indignation Spicer did on that first day.

I have to wonder how Trump, watching this, is reacting to "He's no longer President -- he's a private citizen! The accused is not The President! You can't convict him if he's not The President!" I'd love it if Trump gets so miffed he storms to the Capitol and insists on being put on the stand.

Schoen's going to usurp Trump as "Weirdest-way-to-drink-water-ever"-er.
(eta - I just saw the yarmulke comment. Is it some sort of superstition, I mean religious edict, that one's head must be covered when drinking anything? I've seen weirder "rules".)

Makes sense.

At least he can do it with one hand.

Schoen is just awful. His presentation is too fast, often tripping over his own words. He reminds me of a high school student presenting his paper trying to get it over with as quickly as possible.

Twitter is also saying this, similar but not quite the same:

Mr. Schoen is an observant Jew who must cover his head when he takes a sip of water and quietly says a blessing. Since he is not wearing a kippah, he therefore covers his head with his hand.
