I agree with your take (give or take 1500 km), but he's getting some flak. My go-to conservative blog has a post on him "jumping the shark," and the commenters are not kind. The comments at Hot Air are worse. Example "donut scented manwhore." They're even giving him grief for swooning over Springsteen, which is silly. But 3ish years is a long time, so we'll see.

Christie has a reelection bid coming up next year, as a Republican governor in dark blue New Jersey. Making nice-nice with Obama is just good politics for him. Maybe the president will repay the favor, if not with an endorsement, with a lack of endorsement for Christie's opponent.
