9/11 Truth as a religion

Most members of a cult deny that they are members of a cult. Sure its not a conventional religion in the christian sense with promise of being loved by some all powerful figure and getting eternal life etc but those are not features of all religions and the basic mechanisms in play are the same.

  • Online petitions and youtube comments are their witnessing / evangelism.
  • "A new investigation" is the rapture.

I wrote all of the above and I noticed the lack of consideration for the actual victims of the tragedy. In a real religion, those people would be saints or something, but the truthy people don't even mention them. The closest thing is Sibel Edmonds, who serves as a type of martyr who, in typical truther fashion isn't a real martyr, still alive yammering on about being "silenced."

Handing out DVDs as a passion play? Judy Wood as Mormonism?

Calling 9/11 truth people a cult is way inaccurate. Cults stick to a single dogma and have a single strong leader. 9/11 Truth people I have had direct contact with either in person or via email believe in Controlled Demolition, Post Star Wars space rays, missiles not planes, binLaden being alive, bin Laden never having existed, Flight 93 never having happened, the Holocaust never having happened, aliens having done it, mininukes, you name it. The whodunit list varies even more. They have asked me to investigate all these claims and others as well. The Gage rebuttals took me about 1000 hours so no thank you. But anyway, These subgroups often attack one another and accuse each other of being government shills trying to distract people from the real Truth. Definitely not a cult...

I am more inclined to lean this way as well, it really is more of a religion than a cult. Closer to Christianity, with the various sects falling under the umbrella.

Lots of cults do break off into different factions though--organized religion is one example

But they are certainly religious, the cult aspect is the overall "911 is an inside jawb!!" agreement.

The truthers have different creeds, no-planes, space lasers, dustification, spheres, etc... yet they all manage to unite in one common affirmation of faith - "Teh Gubmit Done It!"

And the government is a omnipresent, omnipotent evil god.
 
A few fringe nuts in 911 truth hate the United States, kind of like McVeigh. Lucky they only post lies, nonsense, fantasy, delusions, and other nutty ideas on 911; they don't take action. I guess they leave the action up to Jones, Griffin, and Gage. Jones spreads insane lies possible caused by a brain problem, Griffin writes books based on hearsay, and Gage begs for money and makes 400k/yr. The rest of 911 truth are failed follower, backed with 10 years of solid failure. The 911 truth religion will fade into the standard flat earth, Bigfoot, eternal failure mode, where the weak minded paranoid conspiracy nuts rise up and fail.

Albeit, most 911 truthers will, on day, rise up and think for themselves and be better than I at being human, and become smart humans; a goal I can only dream of.

David Ray Griffin is the high priest of 911 truth, the high priest of woo.
