9/11: the musical...

chipmunk asked in another thread if someone could host an audio recording of this piece of art. The loosechangeguide.com web site has lots and lots of available space, and no bandwidth restrictions.

PM me to get the file to me, and I'll upload it.

Just FYI, the accompaniment I have runs 3:44. I could probably slow it down to 5:00 or so, maybe add a couple of video clips in there with that flute looping behind.. Also, it seems that Mercutio did an extra verse, so that will add some time too. So, I'd say this might run six minutes. We can jam a lot of parody into six minutes.

I'd love to get in on this if possible.
The midi file is at 150 bpm, but you can do the vocals at whatever tempo you please and I can make the instrumentation fit.
No problem to create a wav or mp3 with the vocals included.

(not sure how familiar you are with digital recording, hope I'm not speaking out of turn)

Thanks for your help Merc. BTW, did you have any particular naughty word in mind? I used one that's close to "brassard", but any two-syllable bad word would work.

ETA: Or, since this is a JREF production, do you think I should actually say "rule eight"?

Off to change the band-aids on my knuckles now...

I think your choice of words is just fine (it's what I generally use). My only question is the "Gravy's link" phrase. It is correct, but might be meaningless to the wider population. If you think it sounds ok, you might try "or click on any link for me", which is broad enough to be (mis)understood by one and all.

A question out of pure ignorance: If I (or someone with an actual voice) sang it in a varied tempo (a pause for thought here and there, or slowed or speeded for emphasis) is that just as easy for you?

No, Grey, you're not out of turn at all.. in fact, I was hoping that someone with that type of expertise would chime in. My digital-recording skills are limited pretty much to creating audio files. So, if you can fit my vocal to the accompaniment (it should be in the same key to start with, and pretty much in time), so much the better. I'll PM you for contact info when I get home and send you the audio file.. you can toy with it at your leisure. Then we can send it to CurtC for upload and the world can bask in the genius that is Mercutio's song.

Not just as easy at all, but still doable. Vocals can be timestretched or shrunk to large degrees with very little, if any, artifacts.

Cool, sounds good. I'm on dial-up, so a mono file is preferred. (you probably won't record with 2 mics, anyway, eh?;)) Also, try to resist the urge to add reverb and keep the file clean. I can add any necessary/desired effects.

jhunter1163, I think I may have misunderstood something...

Are you using the midi file as accompaniment, or an mp3 of the original tune?
I ask because I notice that the mp3 I downloaded yesterday runs for 3:44.

Grey, I used the MP3 as accompaniment, if you want to call it that. I used an earphone so the only vocal you hear is mine. I re-recorded it with all four verses (a quick rewindclick accomplished that) and it now runs almost exactly five minutes (4:57 or 58, I forget which and it doesn't matter much anyway). I'm hoping you can match my vocal to the MIDI tempo, whatever that is. It shouldn't be too different. My connection was a bit balky last night so I didn't try sending it to you. I'll try again tonight. Thanks for all your help, in advance.

ETA: Just FYI, I went back after the second verse of the MP3 to the beginning of it, and just went on to the end from there. So the lyrics go 1, 2, 3, 4 and the MP3 accompaniment would be 1, 2, 2, 3. Hope that helps.

I decided to have a crack at my own parody :D

This is to the tune of "Free Me" by Uriah Heep. I might have to record this one. It's very tempting...

Ammendments and suggestions welcome. :)

[chorus]

Free me!
Free me!
Why don't you free me?
Free me from my padded cell.
Come on and free me!
Why don't you free me?
Come on and free me!
Free me from my padded cell.

Why should I worry that they might not believe me?
This is the only job I've ever had.

It's so clear to me, it's a conspiracy.
So why are they all getting so mad?

As far as I can tell, the reason the towers fell,
was because of a big goverment crime.

But I'm gonna reveal all their top secret plans,
and the glory is gonna be all mine!

[pre-chorus]

So long government liars!
I'm gonna make you all go on trial.
I'll do it sooner or later,
even without any proof.

[chorus]

The Pentagon was a lie, the aircraft just passed it by
And it was blown up with a planted bomb.

There can be no doubt because I worked it all out.
There is no way I could ever be wrong.

[pre-chorus]

[chorus repeated to fade]

Yay, garnos!

We need more parodies!

(If you have a suggestion for one, post it as well...)

Is it just me, or does Queens Bo Rapso, scream out to be a CT parody? I'll think it over.

First thought;
I see a little CT twit...Ct twit, does it swoosh,... does it swoosh,... like it harassed the C-I -T-G-O?

Light poles and fake cabbies, very very likely, ....
Bah! later...

Curse you, Dog Town! I am on my way to take a really good look at the lyrics...

the real problem is the massive amount of production on that song--no parody has the firepower!

Is there anyone here who can sing like Freddie?

I love the idea, though! It's begging to be parodied. :D

Heck, we don't even need to change the first lines:

Is this the real life or is it just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.

Given the overlap between 9/11 troofers and neo-Nazis, I thought a parody to the tune of "tomorrow belongs to me" may be appropriate.

Suggestions, comments and criticisms (constructive or otherwise) are not only welcome but invited.

If it's crap I apologize, I've never written anything before, it's almost 4.am and I can't sleep, anyway enough whininging...
