They are doing it wrong, regardless of intent. As seen in this thread and elsewhere. Maybe they think; we need to stay strong they are just not getting it yet, but maybe more subtle approach .. now I've done it .. could pay off in spreading the word. They are in this case the bunch at Huff responsible for this video. Controversy works, but have some balls .. oops I did it again .. and just be honest.

My father used that phrase frequently and I hated it. The silly thing was that my mother was neither pretty nor little.

A former friend of mine used to belittle his wife with 'dumb blonde' jokes. She is an IT expert and one of the smartest people I know. He couldn't understand why she left him, because he 'loved her so much'.

The sexism exists for both side.

Yes, society tends to say different things to blacks than to whites. That's because blacks and whites are different.

Some of them I heard told to men in a different fashion too. There are probably as many unsubtle and subtle sexist stuff told to men. E.g. if you are not married or have a girlfriend you are a sociopath failure, if you are married and have no children despite trying I actually heard far more often that it was because the man did not have strong "swimmer" etc...etc... The sexism is not based on beauty, but on strength , endurance and similar factors, nonetheless exists.

Here is another one for you : (even on those board?) I read people wishing prisoner go into a "pound me in the ass" prison implying rape is fine as an additional punishment. How often did you hear people wishing rape onto a woman and not being booed ? Yet this keep happening for men.

ETA: and that is not even counting all those qips about being a man and should "suck it up" while suffering for whatever reason, when (actually study shows women are more sensitive to pain and men report it less).

The sexism exists for both side. The problem I see is that is overemphasized as a problem only for one gender, while the other gender in many case is elft hanging out to dry. Both sort of sexism should be fought on.

I can agree with that. Women seem more able to talk about it, which is probably because of the same "suck it up" mentality towards men.

I am 5'9" and not terribly pretty or feminine, and yet I have gotten this attitude from men who are even smaller than me! I suspect it has something to do with shaky masculinity.

Video games for example. Yup "hostile" environment, not easy to "enter", very competitive, by the nature of internet "not safe", possibly not environment "prior nurture" was focused on/conducted in. Still, women need to just get in there and show what they got. Nothing else will work. Signed up for war, gotta fight. There are women in top e-sports teams, for example, and they are respected. Show them, sexist pigs!

Not as analogous as you'd hope. Men and women have many obvious statistical differences from one another whereas whites and blacks are much more similar.

Just because people are different doesn't mean you should treat them differently.

I am certainly not a man. That doesn't mean I am less or more than a man. I am not better, or worse. (Perhaps at some things...I make babies better than a man could. And I have significantly less muscle mass than the average man.)

I am equal to a man in personhood. We are equally deserving of respect. That's what the apologists for sexism miss. I'm an apple and you're an orange, and we both rock!

Just because people are different doesn't mean you should treat them differently.

There is issue of treatment and issue of prejudice. Nobody says: Black men cant jump, because "everyone" knows its not "true", does not correspond with reality, whatever that reality may be. Prejudice can be proven wrong. Treatment however, is matter of law and customs. If we work with assumption that treatment is based on prejudice, there is hope.

On the whole I think he does produce an interesting video that does raise the question about sexism against all sexes.

Also many of the things said in the first video are said to men (may be slightly different words - so "good looking" instead of "pretty").

To expand on your first point, there's the stereotype of the loser man, who can't get a date, sometimes with questionable hygiene, and living in his parents' basement. It's about the only type of person who can be mercilessly disparaged in media, and nobody will care. If a man isn't successful by society's standards, he's worthy of mockery. Those who do object to this, tend to be mocked in turn.

Although they're a bit old, movies like "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Failure to Launch" rely on this trope.
