Merged 8.8 quake in Sendai, Japan

Asking questions and worrying about what's going to happen are fine. Have a look at how Thunder was treated earlier in this thread (his thread was merged into this one).

It's just that DC keeps bringing up totally inconsequential things, and branding us as liars. THAT is why he's getting short shrift.

This ^^^

Yeah... It's really sad to see how many people have a built-in kill switch in their brains that turns of rational thinking and the ability to seek information, as soon as they hear the word "nuclear".

As i mentioned some posts ago, you should see what a field day the anti-nuclear people have here in Germany right now, and how immune they are to _any_ kind of argument that does not 100% fit their own preconceptions.

Quite frankly, these people are abusing the death and suffering of thousand of people to further their own agenda. And in a pretty disgusting way at that.

Greetings,

Chris

Yeah saw that. A quick google "merkel atom strom stop" shows that there is a lot of fear mongering and call for stop of atom electricity generation. They are already now stopping immeidately (quasi) 7 kraftwerk, and putting into question other kraftwerk time.

Utterly pathetic.

I thought the only death was the crane related one?

Either way, it's true that I could have made a mistake, I'm not an expert nor do I claim to be, but I'd say that the truth is still a far cry from DC's apparent beliefs.
You are correct about the only death and that was at Fukushima Daini - the other facility where no explosions have occurred. My mistake.

Obvious troll is obvious

Folks, I suggest no longer wasting any time on DC. There are plenty of others here asking legitimate questions looking for legitimate answers.

 let me guess, you are another JREF expert LOL

oh yeah, the JREFers branding experts from around the world as liars and fear mongers is ok, but never suspect a JREFer talking nonsense......

you guy are like a cult sometimes, really, its sick.-

My respect for the news media, CNN in particular, has hit a new low after the hysteria we got last night with word of the new explosion. CNN all but said a meltdown was underway and Armageddon was upon us.
Betwen this, and Glenn Beck's "God is Punishing Japan for Not keeping the Ten Commanments" I will relay on reliable Internet News Sites and print Newspapers for my news from now on.

CNN was getting so many basic things wrong that I stopped watching. But judging by what I have seen on NHK World, the people in Japan are getting better information.

How long will cooling take and is hydrogen generated throughout the process?
As I understand it Hydrogen should not have formed at all if cooling had gone as planned. As I understand it it is a byproduct of things going wrong. How long cooling will take at those particular facilities depends on whether cooling there can be restored to normal - with circulating Water - or proceeds under improvised circumstances resulting from failures to get normal cooling operations going again because of inadequate pumps/power supplies.

Maybe in your country the experts are the only ones who report on the state of the nuclear reactors, but that's certainly not the case in the UK. There are several people on these forums who may not know what the current situation is, but who do know what the possible failures are, and the implications of them. When reports on the media talk about things which simply cannot happen with this type of reactor, then I know who I will tend to believe.
He does have a point in that we aren't all subject to the idiotic US news model. OTOH, there are plenty of real experts on the forum. It's just that any discussion of the actual hazards is being trounced on here as fear mongering and that's just bull.
