3 dead in central Fresno shooting spree

Infowars is mainstream media now. They were, of course, all over this.

Fox at least.
While CNN had zero minutes of on air coverage. They were too busy covering the Bill O'Reilly story. And the A.P., rather than reporting the gunman's literal words, instead reported the gunman as saying "God is great". Why not "Dios es grande"?

Funny the first and only news story I heard about this they quoted some official as saying, "this is definitely not terror related." It is probably just a random nut job with a racist ideology informing his nuttiness but its nice to know its definitely not terrorism.

From what I've heard he sounds like a 5 percenter* who went all the way nuts.

*Offshoot of the Nation of Islam. Full of numerology & symbolism.

Did AP do that intentionally, or was it poor writing/editing, or what?
I'm leaning toward intentional, as I find it hard to believe the frigging AP would accidentally quote "God is great" when that is not what was said by the shooter. The arresting officer is the one who stated the shooter said "Allahu Ahkbar". He did not use the English translation, only the AP did that.

Ok, so what is the purpose of the intent? What does AP gain by doing that?

It is what the shooter said, translated and that can sometimes be lost in the hurry to publish. You don't need to attribute malice to such a simple error, when stupidity is enough.

One possibility is to not besmirch the religion of peace and stir up anti Muslim hostility. Another might be to make it seem a right wing Christian Fundamentalist carried out the killings if all you did was read the AP wire. After all, how many Islamic terrorists have yelled out "God is great" when carrying out their mission(s)?

That and American's - being largely ignorant - may not know what "Allah Akbar" means.

Is it the AP's job to report the news as it actually happened, or to translate any non-English words included in the story? If a translation is needed for clarity, why not report what he actually said, with an added translation, just like AP News has on their website right now. Stupidity for sure, malice?
