2nd Amendment for the U.K. -- long overdue

Much like oral hygiene, the Brits haven't got a clue about gun rights. After that crazy taxi cab mother ****er shot a bunch of unarmed civilians, it's about time the U.K. thought about adopting its own 2nd Amendment-type gun rights legislation. How many more people have to die before the Brits start carrying guns?

A lot.

How many people would not be killed if we had gun control laws such as the USA has in many of its states compared to the rate we currently have?

We already have our own "2nd Amendment-type gun" rights legislation.

Many many people in the UK have guns and carry them legally. One such person was Derrick Bird. He lived in a small rural area, nevertheless there were still over 22,000 legally owned guns in his county.

In asking how many people need to die before we start carrying guns you imply that more people carrying guns would have stopped Bird.

You may want to live in a country where you need to carry a gun to go shopping or to fix a fence, we currently don’t feel the need. I hope we never do.

Comparing the firearm death rates in America and the UK, America's isn ot higher because Americans can legally own guns and Brits can't. It is because a higher proportion of Americans choose to legally own a gun.

It is not the laws it is the mindset that needs to change for the British gun ownership levels to match America's. I hope that never happens if it also leads to a dramatic increase in the firearm death rate to match that you have in America.

There is a major cultural difference between the US and UK.

But also:
The existing situation in the US can hardly be turned around. The government would have to take people's guns away. Not practical and not popular.

With so many guns in the country already, arming yourself is rational.
I don't think that pro-gun people are nuts.

But there is no reason why the UK should create a similar situation where you have a de-facto arms race between citizens.

Percent of children ages 2-5 with untreated dental caries: 19.5% (2001-2004)
Percent of children ages 6-19 years with untreated dental caries: 22.9% (2001-2004)
Percent of adults ages 20-64 years with untreated dental caries: 26.8% (2001-2004)

Nothing like a bit of stereotyping to make your point is there? Even if it is a cheap shot totally unconnected with the subject.

I think it's pertinent to clarify (for those who choose not to follow the link) that these figures relate to the dental utopia of USA.

You may need to do a little research about exactly what you want. You CANT write legislation contrary to existing legislation

You may need to do some research yourself. The fundamental principle of UK law is Parliamentary supremacy. Parliament can write legislation to do anything it likes. If the new legislation contradicts the old legislation, the old legislation is implicitly repealed.

This is why we do not need guns.

No, we don't need guns because our penises are of adequate size. Those who are concerned about the size of their penis can in any case still drive 4X4s around in urban areas, and if they are particularly insecure they can even fit bull bars to them.

The guns are not necessary.

America doesn't lack for spree killings either, despite having lots of guns around.

Really if you want to deal with people who go on shooting sprees clearly the answer is to lock up all mailmen.
