What would be the likelihood of success of 25th Amendment for Trump, rather than impeachment? The vibe seems to be that a LOT of Republicans would be pleased to see Trump irrevocably gone from government, their lives, their party, their country and mostly their TV sets. Even if it means a return to blandness and having to actually participate in government like sane people. Trump is shipping them many metric ◊◊◊◊-tons of evidence in the last few months alone to have him immediately committed to a high-walled asylum for criminally insane old goobers for the rest of his pathetic life. So perhaps that is the most achievable outcome. Thoughts?
No. The 25th Amendment is designed for cases where the President is alive but unable to perform the duties of President. The Cabinet votes to remove him, and can do so immediately, but the President can come back into power by writing a letter saying "I am capable of performing the duties of President". They don't actually have to be able to perform the duties of President, just capable of writing the letting saying they are.

If there is a disagreement on this, then it goes to Congress, where the vote requirement to remove via 25th Amendment is actually higher than Impeachment. As long as Trump has enough brain cells to write a letter saying he is capable of performing the duties of President and there are not enough votes to Impeach, we are stuck with him.

So Trump could be kept away from the presidency indefinitely.

Given the amount of insane tweets he puts out, I am pretty sure he could put together those nine words, even if he did not understand what they mean...

It depends how you define 'write a letter', give him a piece of paper and a real pen and he's stuffed.

Anyone else suspect he uses the Sharpie because he no longer has the dexterity to use a pen?

It could be part of that but it is mainly because he is too vain to wear the glasses he needs to be able to read anything.

Natalie researches, composes and posts his tweets for him. He doesn't even pudgy-thumb stuff on his phone. He is probably incapable of driving a computer let alone using Google competently enough to find the law stuff on his own. And seems too befuddled to understand it anyway. So he could be in real trouble if he had to respond to a 25A decision on his own.

Cites facts not in evidence.

At what point do you think they'll decide his toxicity warrants action ?
What makes you think they'll have the guts to really do something against him, given all they've let slide so far ?
And unfortunately, there's plenty indications it will be too little, too late, should they miraculously find their courage, or even a smidgen of integrity …
They'll do it as he becomes more unpopular with their constituents. For a long time people have put up with his antics, for lack of a better word. I think a reckoning is coming. The economy, war, obsession with pet projects, increasing megalomaniacal proclomations. Hell, he's even supporting what almost everybody opposes: data centers. His base is shrinking and by extension his political clout. There will be a point in the near future that I don't think they can sustain aligning with him when their voters don't, and the dwindling immovable MAGA voting consituency will not be a big enough reason to stick with him. Plus, I imagine a lot of GOPers want him gone just as much as anybody else.

I wish I could share your optimism …

One problem with the 25th amendment is that both the VP and a majority of "principle" cabinet members must agree with the removal. Unfortunately, trump has stocked his cabinet with first class bootlickers who are unlikely to support removal, and vance will probably not want to cross trump since it will probably harm his re-election chances

And yes, behind closed doors open am sure there are a lot of republicans who want trump gone. But they recognize that publicly going against the kult leader will still harm their re-election chances. They will probably just wait and hope trump dies from a cheeseburger induced heart attack before the end of his term

Even if Trump lost both House and Senate, would it really make much difference? As far as I can see he's been pretty much ignoring Congress since he was elected, and governing mostly by executive order. He's already done plenty of things (e.g. starting a war) for which he should have got their approval but didn't.

Is it because it opens up the possibility that he could be impeached?
In my opinion, the biggest "win" that the democrats would have is taking control of the senate. This would be huge, as it would block trump from putting any more pro-fascist judges on the Supreme court, or in lower courts/cabinet positions/etc. Tgat is something that he cannot get around with executive order.

Apart from that, there are other advantages to winning the house/senate:

- republicans won't be able to pass any more legislation like the tax cuts and jobs act, or the big beautiful bill (trump can still do a lot of damage via executive order, but the inability to pass legislation will limit the damage a little)

- democrats can pass legislation that peopke like, and force trump to veto it. While that won't have an immediate benefit, it will be beneficial in future elections

-controlling congress (as well as various committees) will stop nonsense like the persecution of Fauchi

- I do not think impeaching trump woukd be successful (even with a stong showing by democrats in the midterm), but impeaching trump will still act as a diversion

There's a way to get Couchboy on board, convince him that Li'l Marco's tge favoured one. And to get Li'l Marco on board you just convince him that TACO's swung back to Couchboy.

Shouldn't be that hard.
