There is no way they can let the Dems gain control of Congress. All of the truth will come out. They'll be toast.

Either the election is rigged or an outright military coup with all Dem leaders arrested and sent to prison camps. Disappearances, anyone?

I can definitely see a scenario that if their rigging the election and cancelling as many Democrat votes as possible doesn't generate a majority, he'll just cancel the result.

Before all the negative stories hit about him, Platner was up between 5 and 9 points, and RCP's average (Platner +6.4) reflects the earlier polling. North Carolina GOP dropped a huge bunch of voting restrictions and election changes on Friday evening. It includes:

Total ban on encouraging voter turnout: State and county board members are prohibited from any public statement "encouraging or promoting voter turnout in any election"

Grants the Republican State Auditor total discretion to audit all machines, county offices and personnel involved in any election

Reduces campaign finance transparency: the bill significantly raises the dollar thresholds for required reporting of dark money contributions or media expenditures, waiving reporting for the rest

Requires voters to register with a political party a full year before voting in that party's primary election (up from 90 days)

Total ban on any ranked-choice voting in any primary or general election statewide

Strips some overseas voters of their eligibility to vote in any state elections

Partisan staffing: changes up to 25 professional staff at the State Board of Elections from career civil staff to partisan political appointees

Bans paid petition gathering

Its a voter suppression wet dream.

It's also only a BILL, not a LAW. So before anyone goes off half cocked on this, let's get something straight. This bill will pass the NC House. It will be vetoed by the governor, a Democrat. Republicans do NOT have the votes to override his veto.* In short, this is a piece of performance art that is not going anywhere.

*Edited to add: Yes, it is possible that his veto could be overridden. Republicans have 71 of 120 seats. They need 3/5ths, or 72 votes, to override a veto. It's unlikely that any Democrat would vote for this. But yes, it's possible. Let's hope not.

I think a certain amount of pessimism is understandable. The vast majority of republicans are ethically challenged and would have no problem 'cheating' to win. (Attempts at voter suppression, smear campaigns, gerrymandering, etc.)

But, I don't think there is much to worry about if the Democrats pull off a clear majority in the house or senate. Yeah, republicans may try to launch a bunch of court cases, but so far judges/juries have been one of the few functioning guard rails of US democracy. (Even as pro-republican as the supreme court has been lately, they don't always side with all of Trump's shennanigans.) What else can they do? Arrest successful candidates? Those cases will fall apart quickly. Not have them sworn in? From what I understand it doesn't necessarily have to be the vice president or speaker who swears them in, it can also be a sitting judge.

A more likely scenario is that Democrats will be seated in congress, and then Trump will just continue to act unilaterally (as he has been doing much of the time anyways), ignoring congress.

When I posted this there wasn't any media coverage of it at all. I took it from an early Saturday posting which noted that only a handful of places even had the text of the Bill in hand due to its late inclusion.
