My grandmother would have had a very difficult time as her birth cert said "baby girl" and no name.
My M-in-L's birth cert had her name as "Betty Lou" instead of her actual name "Lorraine" due to an idiot father who couldn't remember her name correctly. She never knew her legal name was "Betty Lou" until she applied for a passport and sent off for her BC.

I suspect most educated married American women have US Passports. Less educated may not. The educated tend to vote Democrat. Are they going to allow passports as ID? My wife's was issued when Obama was President! (latest one, anyhow.)

My birth cert had "no name" on it, because my parents couldn't decide right away what to call me, and no, "Jackass" did not come up as a possible.


ETA: BTW, you would not believe how easy it is to get someone else's BC. In the old days, everything you needed was in the vital statistics of Birth announcements they printed in the papers.

Stephen Colbert is apparently supporting Crockett's opponent in the primary, James Talarico. He claimed that CBS prevented him from airing an interview. CBS responded that they did not prohibit airing the piece, but pointed out to Colbert that it could trigger FCC requirements for equal time for Crockett and another candidate in the primary. So Colbert doesn't air the interview but puts it on YouTube, and the controversy draws attention and whaddya know, Talarico receives donations of $2.5 million in the following 24 hours.

Colbert already had Crockett on with no controversy. So even if the FCC pretended it was interested in "equal time for both candidates" it should have been all in favor of Talarico being on the show.
Of course, it's nonsense, as the rule has not been applied ever for talk shows or even cable.
So yeah, CBS pressured Colbert, again, in order to please Trump.
 
Equal time for both candidates is not a real policy or law required by the FCC.
I'm glad it backfired against Trumpstein's Regime. I hope Talarico wins and wins bigly.

On Wednesday, Carr doubled down on his authority to enforce it. This flap was made possible by overzealous regulation, which Congress could set aside at any time. The American people don’t need bureaucrats to vet their news or entertainment, but that’s exactly what the equal-time rule encourages. Keeping it in place is a political choice.

We are talking the primaries here, not the general election. If Talarico wins the primary he'll be beating fellow Democrats, including Jasmie Crockett.
