Oh good. I was afraid Trump would go with someone who might be seen as a moderating influence. Imagine if Larry Hogan had got the pick? He'd have had all the GOP back on board immediately, and even the centrist Dems here going "well... that wouldn't be ALL bad, you know."
Trump might have also been better served to pick Tim Scott (who might have picked up a few black votes) or Hailey (who might have appealed to women).

An angry white man with a very short political career (and few political connections) isn't going to have much appeal outside Trump's already small base.
But sure, Vance, that's great. A spineless little white nationalist kiss-ass who is the cautionary endpoint of every argument made about what the Republican party has been turning into. Just perfect.
Not to mention all the great quotes that the Democrats can use, such as when he suggested Trump was "America's Hitler". Not only will this embarrass Trump but it will make Vance look like an opportunist.

The Vice-Presidential candidate doesn't need to appeal to voters when the Presidential candidate is already heading for the closest electoral thing to a clean sweep.

Meanwhile, those Democrats who were until recently trying to push for their current candidate to be replaced with one who can win have apparently just given up. Although the news on that subject since the debate has wavered back & forth with "they're trying to get him out... nevermind, they gave up... nevermind, they're trying to get him out again", this round is different because they're openly saying it's because they've given up on the election completely and are just accepting that it's Trump's (and the Republicans' in general, depending on how far down Biden drags his whole party). So now that that cat is out of the bag, along with the other cat that they were lying all along about the "threat to democracy", their top priorities will be finding a way to deal with their own prior claims about the "threat to democracy" and finding a way to blame somebody else for the predicament they created for themselves by lying about Biden's condition until a couple of weeks ago.

JD Vance rode Ohio Governor DeWine’s coattails to his senate victory in 2022. That senate race was close until the end. DeWine is a moderate, winning by 25 points. Vance won by six.

To be fair to the lunatic, he had no winning choice. If he had picked a woman, minority, or moderate he'd lose half his base since they are all hardcore white male supremacists. But ultimately, as Trump pointed out to Fox News, he doesn't really care about the VP and assumes no one else does, because he plains on being Supreme Leader for life.

You can't be seen to be DEI. Too woke.

What a boring, predictable choice.

I'll readily admit, I would have preferred someone who had really debased themselves in order to earn trump's nod, just so we could see the reaction of all the others who had debased themselves similarly. The express 'rats in a sack' springs to mind...

Give him a chance. I'm sure he can sink previously unseen depths in defense of the child rapist.

I don't know about that, he's already pretty far off the deep end
JD Vance said:
As a parent of young children and a nationalist who worries about America's low fertility I can say with confidence that daylight savings time reduces fertility by at least 10 percent.

Maybe calling Trump 'America's Hitler' was seen as a positive commentary on his part.

That's what I'm saying. We don't know that he meant that as a negative. After all, the child rapist's supporters seem to be warming up to not just the ideas of Hitler, but the man hismelf.

And Trump picks somebody just as unfit for the presidency as he is to be VEEp.
Vance is a Trump toady who before he was elected senator never help public officei his life. Hell , he can't even claim to have ran a business sucessfully.

He's a mini-Trump. Trump is trying to set up a dynasty for his cult with the emphasis on nasty. JD Vance could very well be more dangerous than Trump, if he should take over the presidency.

Everything in the Right Wing Ecosphere is about getting to the top of the Grifting Pyramid, and that means stepping on those below, kowtowing to those above.

Vance

“What is the first truly Islamist country to get a nuke? And we were like, maybe it's Iran, maybe Pakistan already kind of counts. And then we finally decided maybe it's actually the UK since Labour took over."

Umm... I think Vance actually fits the bill of someone who has "really debased himself".

Remember, before he went full-blown MAGAchud, he made comments about how Trump might be "America's Hitler" and that there were moral issues with him. Now he is a subservient Trump boot-licker.
