Rumsfeld took a lot of **** for his "known unknowns" speech but he was actually making a lot of sense at the time.

Doesn't excuse what he did, let's be clear, but that speech was very easy to understand.

Except they all knew more "known unknowns" than they were letting the public know.

The slightly ironic thing is that I mentioned them to a colleague who is a genuinely devout* Christian who also believes in tolerance (he used to have Bible/Koran studies with some Muslim colleagues) and he immediately said, that's the JoHari windows" Jo and Harry were youth workers who came up with the concept and he was familiar through that.



*In the similar tradition to the Methodist Labour Party movement

If inflation wasn't so bad over the past few years, it wouldn't be close. Unfortunately the voting public adheres to the ignorant concept that the POTUS is all powerful. They can't see the big picture and nobody will explain it. Imagine if Harris said "Inflation has been a global problem and there's not a whole lot we could have done about it". It wouldn't play well.

No, but even if he did, as a con-artist running a scam he'd still complain as it'd further his scam.
 
Again every Republican complaint boils down to "Why even have a government in the first place?"

They want the church to be decider of moral questions, and private companies to be the service providers FOR EVERYTHING.

Why have an Army? A Navy? A Coast Guard? Police? Roads? Bridges? Why should California have water canals? Or the old river diversion system on the Mississippi? Or Michigan having the Soo Locks? National Parks, The Interstate Highway System?

The fact is the few attempts at privatizing these things have generally been a disaster. Sometimes very profitable for the concessionaire, but not very good for public. And when it isn't profitable enough, the vendors walk away.
