Because his role is to give them permission to be just as bad.

That's how you square the circle.

It still doesn't make sense to me. I've watched him speak at his rallies and it's one batcrap claim after another. That is if you can make sense of what he said. And that's a big if. He rambles incoherently half the time. Most of the time it's everybody is picking on him.

It's not about how he's going to help them. EVER!

Trump isn't there to make things better for them. He's a troll, a bag of flaming dog poop, a brick thrown through a window.

The Supreme Court Justices he let get put on the Supreme Court. Those are the ones that are going to make change.

He's been right about pretty much every election going back to the 1800s, actually. <snip>.
He has been predicting US election results 150 years before he was born?

I can be 100% accurate from the first USAan elections up to 2020 and I’d bet , minimum, 99.9% accuracy if 2024 was included.

SO we will need Time Police just like in Poul Anderson's Time Patrol Stories?

Time travelling nanopatticles? Are there are lot of Time Lords in Boston?

The tweet that she was forced to delete but which she doubled down on was

Terrifying. Also confirms/explains the conversation I overheard in a restaurant in Manhattan 2 yrs ago in which an Apple employee was boasting about attending a top secret demo: they had a new tech to deliver vaccines w nanopatticles that let you travel back in time. Not kidding

This was quite good too

It was amazing to go to Belfast, which does not yet have 5G, and feel the earth, sky, air, human experience, feel the way it did in the 1970s. Calm, still, peaceful, restful, natural.

It's about white supremacy, that's all it is. Trump is speaking to white power without using dog whistles and code. His supporters know exactly what they are voting for.

Think about what you just said.

Read Swift's post. She didn't say "Vote for Harris", she said she's voting for Harris and urged readers to "do your research" and pay attention to politics.

She's trying to solve the problem of 45% people voting for a head of lettuce.

Or do you disagree that people (famous or otherwise) shouldn't urge others to look into politics?

That's what I thought was most interesting about her statement, she said why she was going to vote Harris but did not say that was a reason for anyone else, all she did do was urge people to do their own research and vote.

Yeah we know. "Either side could nominate a head of lettuce and get a minimum 40% of the vote." We've heard it before. Many times.

We shouldn't blaise about that. We shouldn't be okay with that. That isn't something we should just say with a shrug and "LOL watcha gonna do about it?"

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Most people vote on emotion, not rationality. Gen Z is highly influenced by pop culture including the phenomena of "influencers" and no one has more influence there than Swift.

300k new voters in hours.

Brilliant!

I really don't get it. This man is ridiculously stupid. He is seriously unlikeable. I've never seen anyone more self centered. Everything is about him. And none of this is exaggeration. The least principled person I have ever seen.

And none of that matters to his supporters.

What you're missing nothing makes MAGA/Trumpists happier than "triggering liberals" and Trump rightly triggers anyone with even a shred of decency.

The really funny part right now is that the triggering is all being done unto them. Kamala pulled Don's trigger like Clarice Starling in FBI training, and Megyn Kelly is bleeding from her eyes: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...down-taylor-swift-kamala-harris-b2611401.html

Maybe. Of course to me that's stupid. I understood Republicans when they supported other Republican Presidential nominees. I have never agreed that it made more than a small minority better off. But at least I understood what the hell they were saying.

Trump is truly that crazy old neighbor that rants about everything.

My kids and I have a thing when we talk about Harry Potter books, and ask, "Why don't they just do X?" And the answer is, because wizards are stupid.

Sometimes, the best thing to do is to stop looking for complex resolutions and just jump to the obvious answer that explains it all very easily. Like what JoeMorgue said. Or thaiboxeren.

He justifies their bigotry.

You underestimate the number of crazy old neighbors and racist uncles at Thanksgiving who feel like now they have someone who speaks for them.

I think it matters to his supporters, they like it.

This piece quotes David Frum framing it thusly in 2020:
"Trump allows jerks to be jerks," These people look to the president almost as "the leader of a jerk liberation movement," because he gives them permission to behave like cretins without shame or apology.

Again Trumpers have variations on a single core idea, that "Goodness" isn't really a thing you can actually do and you should be punished or excluded if you actually try.

- Good people aren't really good, they are faking it. All good people are performative and dishonest and only doing good things for ulterior reasons which not only invalidates their goodness but any good they actually achieve. Therefore an openly bad person is actually BETTER because at least he's being honest.

- Bad people never actually do anything bad. Everything bad that happens in the world only happens because good people try to do good and fail. Let the fire burn the house down because if we try to put it out we'll use too much water. The only thing that matters is keeping people trying to do good in check.

- Being openly horrible and terrible and stupid and wrong is not a problem, but stepping even a single step over some line of "Not being as good as you think you are" is the worst thing ever. The environmentalist who doesn't live in a solar powered cardboard box IS a worse person than someone who crashed an oil tanker onto a beach just to teach the baby seals a lesson. A person who has no standards is always better than someone who has any standards but is not flawlessly perfect.

- The world is crappy and horrible and if you suggest we either can improve it or that we should try to improve it will cause me actual physical pain.
