2020 Presidential Election

The Federal court hearing on Harris County drive-through voting operations is underway. Judge Hanen doesn't appear too sympathetic to the GOP argument, but you never know.

For those interested, here's a couple of reporters tweeting updates:
Zach Despart of the Houston Chronicle was allowed inside the courtroom: https://twitter.com/zachdespart
Adam Klasfeld of Law & Crime was not, so he's following the case via a dodgy conference call and covering the scene outside the court:

In the past, Trump was allowed to Pass Go and collect $200 instead of going to Prison because his creditors expected him to make him more money in the future than what they would have by foreclosing on him.

Trump tried to cash in on being President, and yet his net worth has plummeted in the past years. His prize possession, the Washington Hotel, won't be worth much when it can no longer get occupancy from those who need to get on Trump's good side.

I don't see any upside lenders to let Trump keep on wasting their money.
Good point.

I think we really need to stress how mainstream that poster’s odious opinions have become among Republicans.

We have underestimated these sociopaths for far too long.

I never have. The fact is that 40+% of the US population are nascent Brownshirts who think the KKK have been unfairly demonized.

Just about the only way they could make it effect the entire country. And even though the 21st amendment repealed it, it still allowed for states and conties to retain prohibition, which is why you'll still find dry counties in the Deep South and the Bible Belt.

Heck, there are Dry townships in New Jersey.

Just a hunch. A feel.

I'd say more "smelling the wind".

I'm a long way removed from the action, but it seems to me that young people in particular really, really, despise Trump. This coincides with youth turning their backs on evangelical christianity, a lot of which is driven by the anti-gay agenda.

I wonder if Kamala Harris wasn't an inspired pick in the end. She's not particularly young, but stacked against those two old geezers, she looks positively jailbait.

It's been a long, lonely time for moderates, and now the end of civilization and commencement of great war begins.

I don't buy it.

What you had was a bunch of grumpy old people pining for the good old days when everyone got a job at the steelworks and blacks weren't allowed in decent restaurants.

And that happened at a time when the idiot Democrats picked the only person in the world capable of losing to Trump.

Maybe I'm just dreaming, but I see the same signs in USA as I saw here over the past few months - young people turning hard left. The hard left* in NZ won 42% of the vote in 2017, and only three years later, took a staggering 58% of the vote.

And that was despite showing a polling drop close to the election. The polls were off by several percent, as I expect them to be in USA.

*not actually very hard left, but Americans would call them Commies.

Hey don't be so harsh on him, I can understand why some people think only native americans should be in charge of their country...

Oh, the irony.

I bet every single Native American believes they should be in control of the country.

"It is indeed fading away, because you can't have a scandal if nobody writes about it" -- Trump has spent a good chunk of his speech in Fayetteville whining that the media isn't covering Hunter Biden's emails to his liking

No! The media won't cover a conspiracy story?

Tell Alex Jones.

I don't see any upside lenders to let Trump keep on wasting their money.

That's exactly what I said two days ago.

Once the size of Trump's loss becomes evident, the party will dump him like he was a day-old dog turd. (which coincidentally, is exactly what he is!)

And any lawyers willing to bet on Trump at that stage will be the bottom-dwelling ambulance-chasing kind that even Trump's repugnant pals on SCOTUS will not treat kindly.

He's a disappointment in many ways but I still hope he wins. I also would approve of any and all methods of maintaining power no matter the election outcome. The whole country is no longer legitimate, and from here on out I am in favor of my side winning by whatever means. As in, if he can pull some sort of lawyer maneuvers, bring the ballots into question, whatever - I say go for it.

By whatever means.

Anyone entertaining the hope that this is an extremist view among Trump's loyalists is living in a fantasy land.

Welcome to democracy.

Hans

Democracy can go to hell.

It is particularly contemptible when one side decides "know what? we can't get the votes of the actual citizenry, let's flood a bunch of foreigners in here, make paper citizens of them, promise we'll continue to let even more of them in and butter them up with other promises, completely contrary to what the real populace wants and what the nation has traditionally stood for, and get votes that way."

That is an act of war against the traditional American nation, and all bets are off.

Gerrymandering, voter ID (which is common sense regardless), trying to dissuade certain groups from voting, legal tactics to get ballots thrown out, these are all bare minimum / tame solutions which will sound like a joke in 10 years.

Foreigners becoming citizens: contrary to what the nation has traditionally stood for.

Not one iota of self-awareness.

ETA: Alternatively: "I got mine, **** you!"

You see this is what happens when a place polices for civility standards but not intellectual standards.

There's no way within the MA to respond to this. We can keep telling him "you're wrong" in neutered, whitebread, milquetoast ways with no impact but that's it.

He's using many words but the truth is, it's about white supremacy. Democracy can go to hell, America is for the white man.

His other stupidity aside, I fear he might be right about this part, largely because of people like him and his compatriots.

People like this think we've been fighting a "Culture War" for decades now. It's probably about time our side decided to start fighting one too.

I expect ST and his ilk won't like the results of that, considering how well we've been winning the culture war without even really trying.

Going out to eat in ST's America would be so frightfully boring.

I was thinking of a right way to reply, because there has to be one, and I realized I already had.

Skeptic Tank, please click the video in 2474. Or, you don't want to, I guess that's fine. Your loss.

That's what I believe in. That's what I'll be voting for. You can vote, too, I suppose. It's a free country. If people who get the message vote, and if we teach that message to the next generation, whether of natives or of immigrants, it will remain so.

Let's see, Pretty much everyone here is from somewhere else unless they are Native American. I'm guessing you're not. So who constitutes an American? Every word you spout forth demonstrates pure xenophobic racism. .

Basically you're saying that only White Christians should have a voice and the rest of the country aren't really Americans.

You make me sick.
