In the last job report prior to election day, the US Unemployment rate stands at 7.9%. It has never been that high going into an election.

GOP spin: Trump is Number 1! Obama couldn't win an election with numbers like this!

It's going to go up. The airlines are laying off tens of thousand of people this month. Trump will be the first president in history, if he loses next month, to leave office with less jobs than when he took office.

Because voter repression is a thing, with many features and methods.

It is. I hope the Biden Administration enacts major improvements to the Voter Rights Act that goes as far as possible to prevent the horse **** the GOP pulls every election cycle. Nothing they do could do more to ensure a Democratic majority than doing so.

I just heard he is now on a respirator. That's serious. Even if he recovers he might not come back all the way.*

*Yeah, I know. The jokes write themselves.

I don't see the upside for him.
Two weeks quarantine are not good for him, politically or mentally.

You assume Dolt 45 is an intelligent and calculating liar.

He is not.

It's reasonable to think he just decided to do it because he saw the sympathy people get for getting COVID, or that Kushner or some other idiot told him it'd help, and he decided to go with it.

(Being flown to the hospital, however, is a bit of another matter)

I agree that that would be the right thing to do.

The problem is, the supreme Court (thanks to the republican appointments) already gutted legislation designed to address certain abuses of the democratic process. I can't see them reversing course to allow new improvements. (Unless the democrats manage to increase left-wing representation on the supreme Court first)

How on earth can this be legal?

One of the consequences of John Roberts, along with Kennedy, Alito, Scalia, and Thomas gutting the preclearance requirement of the VRA - claiming that nobody in the US would try to suppress the voting rights of racial minorities, despite clear evidence of the GOP doing exactly this being presented to them directly, and thus it unfairly treated states with a long and overt history of voter suppression different from states with a less clear history of such. Texas is one of the states that stampeded to suppress minority voters within hours of the ruling.

Note that this is a personal project of Roberts since he first worked in the DoJ under Reagan, in the early 1980s.

Won’t a court fix this as soon as a suit is filed?

Likely, but not assured. The whole "I'm worried about fraud" thing tends to collapse under the slightest scrutiny. And yes, there are already lawsuits filed.

Are the Republicans just going to appeal and appeal hoping to stay ahead of these legal challenges until Labor Day.

More likely they'll try something else - like "We're restricting each county to *two* drop boxes. What? We're in full compliance!"

I may have mentioned this before, but apparently no drop boxes in our new county of residence in TN, Loudon County.

This from their FAQ page...

I received my absentee/mail ballot today; village hall drop-box is just around the corner. Gonna savor this one.

There is that problem for sure. But if the Dems acted cleverly like the GOP does, they'd pass such legislation in, say, April, 2022 and then jam up the courts with appeal after appeal so that a ruling is not possible before November of that year.

Today's polls look BAD for Trump. And they don't yet factor in the White House super spreader event.

And we can see how well that worked out.

Plus... Seems to be ignoring that even if stubby Mcbonespurs is tested, the audience is not.
