Well, let me explain, then: you very often bring up these things, only to back away from them by using the excuse that they're off topic or somehow irrelevant.

I didn't bring up either abortion or euthenasia, and YOU brought up the death penalty, not me. And I did not bring up or address the morality of abortion or euthenasia, so I haven't backed away from anything that I did address.

Are you seriously asking me if I literally meant that you've never voiced an opinion on any topic in your life?

Your statement was confined to this board, not my life in total. But yes, I'm asking if you actually meant what you wrote. You have written clearly false things about me before, only to try to excuse them as hyperbole. I'm asking if you are doing so again, if you intend this latest lie to be taken literally or not.

But in case it's not obvious, I take offense to lies told about me whether they are intended literally or not. Perhaps offense was the actual intent. If so, you have accomplished your goal. If not, perhaps reconsider your tactics.

//ETA: This doesn't warrant its own thread and didn't know exactly where to put it, but Warren's hat is still in the ring last time I checked so good a place as any...//

Warren releases 2018 tax return, reveals $900,000 in income

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren has released her tax return for 2018, reporting that she and her husband paid more than $200,000 in taxes on a joint income of about $900,000 last year.

The move by the senator from Massachusetts on Wednesday follows similar tax return disclosures from fellow presidential candidates Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. Their front-running rival for the party's 2020 nomination, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, has vowed to release his tax returns by Monday amid political pressure.

Warren, who previously posted a decade's worth of tax returns online, has proposed legislation that mandates the public disclosure of tax returns for presidential and vice presidential candidates and for sitting White House occupants.

For ****'s sake, Zig, you brought up the question of cognitive dissonance right here:

This is some top-notch cognitive dissonance. The party in favor of euthanasia is the same party that's in favor of abortion. They go hand in hand, just like opposition to abortion and opposition to euthanasia.

But yes, I'm asking if you actually meant what you wrote.

Sorry if tone doesn't carry, but you can't possibly take it literally.

For ****'s sake, Zig, you brought up the question of cognitive dissonance right here:

Yes. acbytesla's cognitive dissonance. Which relies not on any moral or even logical evaluation of abortion or euthanasia, but merely an observation of what others believe, and observation which no one has challenged. The justification (or lack thereof) for their beliefs is irrelevant to acbytesla's error.

Sorry if tone doesn't carry, but you can't possibly take it literally.

If you don't mean it, don't say it.

I hope the eventual Democratic candidates do less drama diva screeching at each other than the posters here do. Who said what about whom? How dare you! Slap, hurl wine glass into fireplace, sweep down grand staircase in huff.

Joan Collins 2020.

I wish I had a grand staircase to sweep down in a huff. :(

Well, I have to give you that, your dodges are very creative.

It's not a dodge, Belz. I can't help it that you aren't used to people making limited claims without staking out positions on every issue.

How about at least having something to say about those issues that doesn't involve baiting responses and then running away?

I can't help that you feel baited, you seem unusually prone to that response. If you want to discuss those topics in depth, a different thread would be a more appropriate venue.

It would be, but would you participate? I ask because I want to know if it's worth creating a thread.

Tell you what: PM me and I promise I'll respond (though maybe not quickly, I have upcoming travel). I'd just as soon not deal with the inevitable crap other posters will inevitably bring to any abortion thread.

For what it's worth, I too wish we could discuss certain aspects of abortion separate "the abortion debate."

By the way has anyone pointed out that no one actually went to jail for truancy? That the system worked by finding solutions and truancy is now less of a problem than before? Seems like that matters.

Yes, but what you said was:

I'm sorry but if a kid is missing 60-80 school days a year I'm glad a prosecutor is threatening them with jail.

Your position can be summed up by saying that a child who's sick in hospital should be threatened with jail in order to find a solution to truancy.

She got arrested and perp walked as a political prop, dragged through the judicial system for 2 years, and was acquitted on all charges. At the time of her arrest, People's was working to have her daughter's IEP updated to better accommodate her daughter's prolonged illness. Her arrest did nothing to help with her child's truancy. It likely made it harder for her to advocate for her daughter.

What the DA could have done was help her with updating the schools IEP for her daughter. Seems like a DA could go a long way in making sure that schools obey the law and accommodate a student with severe, chronic illness. Instead, they prosecuted the mother.
