2020 Democratic Candidates Tracker - Part II

I think the research into this contains certain elements of truth, but Biden showed no understanding of the nuances. I think the most likely explanation for the differences in language abilities are to do with how much attention and interaction a child and a parent get from looking at books and having the parents read to them. With picture books that have a lot of content, the parents can spend more time holding a conversation or even directing the language from the book towards the child. With very simple board books, there is likely to be less interaction. But ultimately the difference is how much language is directed towards the child.

The fact that Biden thinks that just sticking "the record player" on is the way to meet a quota of words shows he doesn't know what he is talking about, although frankly I think he was just on-tilt while trying to bat away the question about segregation and was free-associating to prevent himself having to directly address his old comments about segregation.

"You dyed your hair brown!"

"I was thinking about what you said about blondes being more likely to get skin cancer."

Ha ha! Yeah, this was the bit I was talking about earlier where somehow he droned on and on making no sense as an answer to the question.

Even better he decided he wanted to talk more complaining that everyone else got to talk and then went on about Venezuela. Huh?

I felt a bit sorry for him. He seemed a bit lost and at one point when Castro was laying into him he seemed like he had to ask Bernie Sanders “wasse sayin”. When you have to rely on Bernie Sanders to tell you what people around you are saying you really do look out of touch.

"I am not out of ye touch," inscribed Biden upon the parchment with his quill pen, "forsooth I am ye coolest and thine hippest candidate for ye presidency of ye thirteen colonies." He snapped his fingers to summon a house slave to take the missive to a stagecoach headed for Ben Franklin's newspaper. It would appear in broadsheet within a fortnight, and surely electrify the populace! Biden sat patiently, waiting to receive the universal approval he was certain was going to come to him one of these days.

I heard that Biden didn't bleed out his eyes this time, but there was something weird going on with his teeth. I've read it characterized as everything from "chewing air" to "his dentures were falling out". Did anyone who watched see anything of the sort? Is it possible a handler smeared peanut butter on the roof of Biden's mouth to make it look like he was talking?

I've moved 140 "establishment candidate" posts off to the appointed thread. I'll try to do a second pass on those posts to cull out ones that don't really belong anywhere, so if you end up getting multiple PMs about the same post, I'm apologizing now.

As always, keep it civil; keep it on topic. The topic is not the other posters.

Man, I'm starting to wish I'd have watched this train wreck. Oh well, I'm sure the best parts will be all over youboob soon enough.
Everyone did fine. It's just that "performed adequately" doesn't make for an impactful narrative that changes people's minds, so the slightest thing is being seized on.

I was pleased by how much actual policy people had. There were much fewer vague promises about eventually sorta getting something done about it. Unfortunately Biden was still the front runner there as well.

I think this was the first time I've actually paid attention to Klobuchar speaking. Does she usually vibrate like that?

Nolte: Biden’s Racist Idea of Reparations Is Teach Black People How to Raise Kids

So Biden’s answer to what he sees as institutional segregation will be to send government bureaucrats, in the form of social workers, into black homes to ” to help [black parents] deal with how to raise their children.”

And then it got worse. The reason he wants to do this is because black parents “don’t know quite what to do.”

Let me reiterate: Biden’s plan is to send social workers into black homes to teach the parents how to raise their own children because these black parents don’t know quite what to do.

One more time: Biden’s plan is to send social workers into black homes to turn on this thing called a record player or the gramophone or the Victrola or the 8-track — you know, whatever hip kids are turned on by, to “make sure that kids hear words.”

Apparently, Biden doesn’t think kids are hearing enough words in black homes.

Sarcasm aside… Good God.

Try to imagine the media reaction if Trump said he wanted to send government employees into black homes to teach black parents how to raise their children…

Which takes us back to what I’ve said before…

In order to attack Trump as racist, you have to lie, you have to invent and fabricate things, you have to deliberately take him out of context.

This, however, is not the case with Biden. No one has to lie to prove Biden’s racist, and this is yet another example…

Paternalism is a devious form of racism. Infantilizing is, as well. It is full-blown supremacism. Biden believes black people need help raising their children for one reason: because they are black, because of the color of their skin.

That Breitbart piece is both more and less charitable to Biden than I am. It comes to a less charitable conclusion (he’s racist) by assuming something more charitable (he said anything coherent).

"Body of work".

Biden in 2007: "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man."

I think it's because his positions reflect 1970's-1990's politics, and he comes across as an out-of-touch old man.
He especially did when he said, "This is America", to Sanders who was describing how our health care falls short.

Much as I thought Biden's answer reeked of Moynahan Report (in reality, it's the percentage of poor people in your area that's most correlated with poor school performance - and we're discussing *wealth*, not *income*), um, I sincerely don't care what Breitbart has to say about black people, or any other group for that matter. n Last I checked, they were still pushing overt white nationalism.

This is just a hint of all the ways Biden's "gaffes" can and will be used by the pro-Trump crowd to minimize Trump's racism.

Hmmm, Breitbart seems to have the same take on it that I did; that he's actually thinking it would be a good thing to have lots of social workers coming into the homes of black children to make sure they are being raised properly.

Of course Biden is stuck between a rock and a hard place on reparations. On the one hand, reparations are probably not terribly popular politically overall in the country. On the other hand, I'd suspect that they are reasonably popular among blacks. Blacks at this point seem to be Joe Biden's base.

So yeah, he has to get off of that topic, but it almost seems more like stream of unconsciousness than consciousness.

Thereby preemptively securing the 2019 Non-Sequitur Post of the Year award.

We were talking about how you can't make it out of voters that think it is cool that your favorite novel is by James Joyce. The fact I'm the target audience for that supports that conclusion.
