Hawaii health workers are looking back now at clusters of severe pnumonia around xmass time, some which killed healthy young athletic types (although I think illegal weed vape cartridges that killed a lot of the same demographic last year are a lot more likely), and our blocks of school absences and near closures just after xmass

Link's dead.
I'm not buying that without some decent studies.

Worked for me.

Numerous reference links in the article. I didn't chase all of them back, so I don't know how many reduced down to actual studies.

If you can't get your browser to cooperate maybe you could try googling the article title. I did that, too, and the same article topped the list of hits.

Nope, otherwise they'd be publishing it.

I did say "totally speculation". How much more of a disclaimer do you need?

I just thought it was interesting. Similarities? They're single-strand RNA and share some symptoms.

They need to be antigenically similar not genetically, which they aren't. There might be antibody cross- reactivity between coronaviruses.

It works now. This is the same case I read about earlier which said they could not guarantee he wasn't also exposed somewhere else. Now I can't find that link.

No matter. Time will tell when more data is collected.

Are we even certain how soon they become contagious after infection? Are the totally asymptomatic ones contagious? how long does that last? Has it been tested for?
Yes to your bolded question.

The rest is uncertain. People are tested until their tests come back negative.

Vaccine crossover doesn't work that way. Vaccines are very specific to antibody-antigen interactions.

I see Capsid ninja'd the information. :)

There was no thought of similarity being the cause. The suggestion was that the MMR ramps up the body's defences, which helps fight it off more easily.

I'm still trying to find the piece.

Four people flown back to the UK after having been released from the Diamond Princess after quarantine have now tested positive for Covid-19, so I suppose we now just have to wait for those who were released into Japan to start infecting their neighbors and there will be a lot of new cases here soon.

Oh wow - that's just great, but if you think that's bad, check this out:

12 new cases in Japan, including:

- a woman in her 50s who works as a part-time school lunch attendant in Hokkaido. She had sore throat on February 15. She wore a mask, a white coat, and gloves, and carried lunches to 194 school children from the serving room to each classroom using a wagon.

Lucky it doesn't harm kids, but nothing to say they won't carry it home.

Yes, there are now 24 cases in Hokkaido from that cluster. I believe I already posted about two children (brothers) from her school who have come down with the virus.

Bet she contaminated those gloves. People need training, they rarely get it. Or, she spread it before her sore throat developed.

It looks like the flu. It sounds like the flu. It kills rather more people than the flu.

Most places, so far, it kills about as many people as a bad batch of the flu. In China, we're getting a whole different story. Whether this is a story about the Corona virus, or a story about the truth of conditions inside China, remains to be seen.
