I think I voted for Cherries for Governor.

I literally would have to go online and look up my census data or something to tell you if I live in a "white" or "black" neighborhood.

I see a pretty good mixture when walking my dog and I'd say about a 50/50 ratio of trick or treaters. I really can't say anything beyond that.

It's a little more important than that, but yeah, I would think the county commissioners should just interview and hire the most qualified applicants for non-policy jobs. The intent might be to avoid handing out too many jobs as political plumbs. Unfortunately, that does happen with jobs that aren't elected, but elected jobs generally go to the dominant party anyway because few people care.

She changed her position in 2013 to fully support same-sex marriage. (her position prior to that was to support civil union for same sex couples, which is basically marriage but by another name.)

Peoples opinions on issues change over time as they are exposed to more evidence, and changes in the way we tend to think as a society.

Stop living in the past. Trump has changed his view from 30 years ago and now he's a racist who wants to ban Muslims from entering the USA and is painting immigrants as evil people who must be stopped. He tells us that there are "very fine people" amongst klansmen.

He is not the same person now as he was back then.

HC changed her views on same sex marriage over time and was fully supportive of them in 2013. Five years ago.

Okay but is it really logical to demonize someone over an opinion you held "a little while ago?" (And no before I get crap over I'm not defending Baylor 'throw everything abut Hillary against the wall to see what sticks' ranting. I'm using him as a jumping off point, I'm not agree with him.)

Obama said "Marriage should be between a man and a woman" in his first term and it was practically considered hate speech by his second.

We should all grow as individuals and as a society but "not coming to the same conclusion at the same pace" isn't the same thing as being "backwards."

The Left is sort of bad about this, throwing shade at the Right for thinking and saying things they thought and said like within a "Who's Playing Doctor Who" timeframe.

Makes sense. I would actually agree with the 50/50 for trick or treaters. I think that is because most of the recent arrivals in our 'hood are young families who see it as a great area to raise their kids. I know we had well over 300 kids come by out place on Halloween.

I confess that I changed my mind, too, and I'm about as liberal as they come. I also fully favored civil unions -- a contract with equality under the law -- but not "marriage" because I unduly associated marriage with procreation. I came to realize that a couple might or might not choose to become a family regardless of their ability to procreate, so there just isn't really any logical reason to make a distinction and give special status to hetro couples.

I also regret that Democrats were slow in turning towards gay marriage, for instance, but times were different then, and the idea more radical in the political and philosophical context. That's regrettable, but not so regrettable as, say, the current administration changing definitions so that transgendered people can't be considered in terms of civil rights and anti-bias legislation.

Political change in a democracy consistently lags about 20 to 30 years behind the will of the majority of the people. Politicians are frightened of making a big policy change all at once, so it happens in stages.

For a country where "rights" are such a crucial component of their national identity the USA seems to have tremendous difficulty in providing reasonable rights to their own citizens. Rights such as gay marriage have been common and accepted as the norm for years in many western democracies. You guys are still arguing about them.

The politically expedient words of two men have absolutely nothing to do with the will of the majority of the population. The fact that gay marriage was a political issue in 2008 and 2012 is the significant factor

I'm voting straight Democratic except for county coroner -- I have no idea why we vote for that, anyway -- because the Democrat has no qualifications at all.

Depending on where you live they're seen as check on the Sheriff's office which can also be an elected position.

How do you know the children you see aren't actually white children in blackface? I hear that's an acceptable thing to do now.
